I need some advice on what time I REALLY need to start hair/makeup. Here’s the stats:
- Ceremony starts at 6:30 PM
- Photographer gets there at 2 PM (don’t have to be 100% ready, right? getting ready shots?)
- 6 people getting hair done: me, mom, 4 bridesmaids
- 4 people getting makeup done: me, mom, 2 bridesmaids
- We are getting ready in the bridal suite at the venue, so no travel time
- We are doing a first look and most pictures first, as well as a quick rehearsal/quick kettubah signing.
The hair people said they want to arrive and get started at 8:30 AM!!! To me, that’s WAY TOO EARLY for a 6:30 ceremony. Right???? (They are only sending 2 hairstylists though.)
Please give me some advice!

What time are your photos? Not the getting ready ones, but the first look and the ones with the bridal party?
We had a 5:30 PM ceremony, and our hair appointments started at 9:00 AM because there were six bridesmaids, two moms, and myself who all needed hair and makeup done by the time photos started around 1:30.

That’s about right, especially if you are doing pictures at 2. If it is just you doing pics at 2 and the bridal party later then I would think you could start at 10

@Prncssamy: I thought the same way as you at first, but the salon I’m going to assures me that it will be fine.
Our ceremony is at 5pm and we are planning to have getting ready, first look and family portraits done before, starting at approximately 2pm.
My hair and makeup appointment is at 9am — and thats just for me, no wedding party.

Thanks, ladies so much for giving advice! I actually called the venue today, and they said they don’t even open the building until 9:00. So I am going to tell the hair people to come at 9:30. I still think that will be plenty of time…right?
Other Bees, what is your experience? I love all the input! (This really is the best website ever, I have learned so much from you all from even before I was engaged when I was peeking on rings here!! 🙂
@Gemstone: That’s a good question about first look. Something is sticking in my mind that that would happen around 4.

Is everyone getting updos? My hair people budgeted 1 hour per person for updos, and 30 minutes for blowouts/curls. Make-up is 30 minutes per person. Plus they need set-up time if they are coming to you.
You probably want to be 90% ready by the time the photographer gets there. Most of the hair & makeup shots are photographers do are staged. My photographer told me to have my hair & makeup done completely before they arrive.

@Prncssamy: Sounds like you should be okay on time then. 🙂 You have more time to get these things done than I did and fewer women who need hair and makeup.
I assigned “shifts” of sorts to my girls. Meaning, my first three bridesmaids got hair done and then moved to makeup while the rest of the bridesmaids and I got our hair, and so on.

WOW that’s early. Our ceremony is at 4, photographers coming at 12, we’re heading to the salon at 11:30.
