I think that I would. I have a 1 carat with 6 prongs and it looks great but first asked the jeweler to show us how it would look with a half and the prongs just swallowed it..

@KittenB:  I have a 1 ct with a 6-prong head. Maybe your prongs will be small? I never realized that mine are small until I started looking at other rings on wedding bee after our engagement. The prongs are quite thin and hardly go outside the perimeter of the stone. Maybe yours will be the same? I think usually six prong makes it look bigger because it showcases the diamond great and makes it look round, as opposed to square-ish. Crossing my fingers for you!

from what I understand frpm our jeweler is that the head(prongs) can be replaced b/c that was an option for us. So just keep that in mind

I don’t think so… I’ve seen many different sized diamonds in the Tiffany setting (6 prong) and I thought they all looked beautiful, even as petite as 0.30ct. Let me see if I can find some pics…

    ETA: here are some pictures:

I believe these stones are both around .50ct:

I have a .91ct in a 6 prong setting and it is perfect. I think sometimes a 6 prong can make a diamond look bigger so a .5 ct should be lovely!

I think a half carat looks MUCH better with six prongs over four. Here is a picture of my. 3 ct right hand ring, I adore the look of more prongs..

My ring is almost exactly what you described. Half Carat, cathedral setting with 6 prongs and I don’t think the 6 prongs make my diamond look smaller. I think it makes the diamond look a little more round. I can post a picture a little later for you. I don’t have one on this computer…yet…

I don’t have a picture on my finger, but mine is a half carat, and I dont think the 6 prongs makes it look smaller. They really don’t cover much. And having already bent one of the prongs, I am very happy to have 6!

I love the look of 6 prongs on any size round diamond, but forgot to mention that when Fiance picked out a 4-prong solitaire setting for my .67 carat diamond.. oops 🙂 I love it nonetheless, though!

I don’t think it’ll be a problem unless the prongs are thick.  A lot of rings the head can be switched out, so if it does end up bothering you, you can probably get it switched.
