I LOVE 6 prong settings but a lot of the chains carry mostly 4 prong and I think that is the reason why.  I honestly don’t know that there is much difference and that minor difference isn’t enough to sway me towards a different setting!

Here is my ring with 6 prongs, its about .7 carat. I wanted 4 prongs but I had no clue about the engagement so whatcha gonna do 🙂 I do LOVE my ring, 6 prongs and all, its better than what I had thought I wanted!

@KittenB:  Did you ever post a pic of your ring in the end? I just changed the setting on my half carat from 4 prongs to 6.  I like it so much better! People kept thinking my diamond was square, which I hated! Plus, I think having 6 prongs makes it look bigger, and like a snowflake =D. The prongs ended up being tinier than when there were only 4 and didn’t cover up the diamond at all. I’d love to see yours! Mine is a cathedral setting as well. Here it is from above:

canadianplum:  hi, if you don’t mind me asking, where did you purchase your ring? The thinner band on it is stunning!
