I’ve been engaged for a month now, and I already feel like I’ve been planning this wedding for a year!
I’m having difficulty finding a venue that we like. Maybe we’re just being picky.
I was dead set against a hotel, because it seemed generic and so many of them have ugly carpets (yes, picky).
We like teh idea of some place with character… but not too much :character” if you know what I mean. I like the idea of having exposed brick/ beams things like that.
Right now I’m leaning towards Saraguay or Citadel site. If we were to go with a hotel I’m thinking it would be Prince George or Lord Nelson.
Another thing I’ve noticed is most venues you have to be out by 1am, which seemed early to me.
Any halifax brides who can give any tips/ insight into a nice venue (preferably with delicious food!), would be greatly appreciated!!

try looking at restaurants – my cousin is getting married at a church and then having the reception at saege on spring garden – the food is amazing and they’re renting the restaurant for the evening.

also – if you do end up doing a hotel, there are some gorgeous rooms that overlook the harbour at the delta halifax. i used to work there and the rooms look amazing done up for a wedding.
are you looking right in halifax? open to bedord or dartmouth? and are you wanting the ceremony and reception in the same place?

@peonyinlove: Thanks for the tip about Delta Halifax. I hadn’t looked into that one yet.
We want to do the ceremony and reception the same place if possible. Would prefer to stay close to downtown Halifax, but the right venue would sway us out of the city.

im getting married at the maritime museum of the atlantic and then our cocktail reception is at the marriott harbourfront. i hear ya on the carpets. every single space we looked at had nasty carpet, including the harbourfront, but wehad to compromise on something LOL
i have heard juno hall is also really cool but you need a sponsor who is in the military i believe.
best of luck to you!!!!!

I went and looked at Saraguay – it was really lovely, but unfortunately, renting out the main area (upstairs) was a little more money than we were looking to spend. We ended up booking The Halifax Club downtown for the ceremony and reception. Good luck!

I am getting married at The Barn in hubbards, beautiful converted barn about 30 minutes outside of the city, still close enough for vendors to get too but great price and a ton of character 🙂

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. A relative got married at the Halifax Club and it was a lovely venue. Using it, I’d have to forever deal with “you copied me, you must want to be exactly like me”, so I ruled that one out a long time ago!
We also looked at the saraguay which was also very nice, but could end up being tight for our numbers.
We have decided on the Prince George, who has just rennovated their ballrooms (so no ugly carpets!!), plus they have an outdoor garden patio, so if it’s nice out we can do the ceremony/ cocktail reception outside.
Happy planning everyone!
