@Hayley08tm:  Hi! Just for privacy issues in the future, you might want to take your email address off of here. You could just ask people to PM you with pics if they don’t want to post them.

@Hayley08tm:  Hi Hayley, I’m having a Halloween wedding here next month and I’d be more than happy to show you what we’re making.

The centerpieces will be similar but not exact. I found Lanterns from another bride on Craigslist and I’d be more than happy to sell them to you if you would like (much less than $6/each) I also have Manzanitas that I’m using that I will be selling as well.

Curly or corkscrew willow or curly hazlenut branches would work.

Depending on where you live these are pruned either in spring or early fall so the timing might be perfect for you to pick up some free branches.

I would scout around now to find local growers and arrange to get prunings next year.

@Hayley08tm:  The trees are all different heights, I haven’t really had a chance to take a good look at them yet. The person I bought them from had her brother cut them down from a farm he lives on that has Manzanita trees. Once we start putting them together I can measure them and see how many I have of each size.

Here are the lanterns:

I bought them in beige but they’ve all been hand-painted black.

@Hayley08tm:  What size are your lanterns?

I just did a quick check but the lanterns I could find for $6 are small- much smaller than the ones in your inspiration pic.

Whether or not you use large lanterns, if you are trying to duplicate that centerpiece, you are going to need the larger branches that are about 4 feet tall or more. They would be sturdy enough from which to hang a lantern.

Crepe Myrtle trees would be excellent for this, but I don’t know if they are available where you live. These bloom in the summer and sometimes fall, but they look just like the tree you posted in your inspiration pic when you remove the leaves and blooms, which won’t hurt them as they are usually intensely cut back during the winter anyway.  You could buy small, potted Crepe Myrtles for less than $20 to use on your tables, wrapping the pot in something like the black lace or another Halloween-esque fabric.  After the wedding you could easily re-sell them on Craigslist or plant them in your own garden!  They are gorgeous when they bloom and very sturdy.

@Hayley08tm:  I’m a big fan of doing a mockup of your proposed centerpiece before you start to purchase things.

It’s hard to estimate the size of things in pics.

Those lanterns look to be almost twice the height of the wine glasses so I would guess that they are 16-18″ tall.

I don’t know where you live but if these trees/shribs are local to you, there are almost always ads on Craigslist giving them away free or selling at very low cost, to do a trial.
