OK, I tried to post this a second ago and my internet flaked out.
What are your costume ideas this year? My daughter decided way back when Hunger Games the movie came out, that she would be Katniss. (She’s 8) The bow and arrow costume is probably easy, but I reeeally want to make her a dress that goes up in flames..sounds dangerous though. Help!
What is everyone thinking for this year? Any fail costumes? Pics?!

It’s my birthday, so it’s fun for me… Last year, I was the Sunshine Girl I was in yellow from top to bottom, yellow hair to yellow shoes, even wore yellow makeup! And I carried a giant bright yellow sun flower. I went to a senior residence party. All the pictures are on my mom’s computer, and she’s gone for 3 weeks… This year, I don’t know yet. Maybe a “Mrs. T”??

We’re either going as Ginny and Harry Potter; Woodie and Little Bo Peep, or Ariel and Prince Eric. We can’t decide lol.
And I’ll be teaching on Halloween, so I’m going as a cereal killer, where I’ve sewn a bunch of mini ceral boxes to a sweater, and am making some knives out of cardboard. I’m excited for that, I’m hoping my students (9th grade mostly) get it!

@cirk: What subjects do you teach? It would be cool if on that day, you are teaching the difference between same word pronounciation in an english class!!
- bare-bear …
- two – to – too …
- four – fore…
- cereal – serial…

Last year we didn’t coordianate. I was Ramona Flowers and he was Hunter S. Thompson. This year he wanted to coordinate so we’re going as Cyclops and Emma Frost.

A few years ago Darling Husband and I wanted to go as Beth and Dog the Bounty Hunter…I mean, long flowing blonde hair for both of us, dream catcher earrings, leather pants…but we just take Dirty Delete trick or treating so it didn’t seem very comfortable…

I want to be Carmen Sandiego. It’s really just an excuse to get a really cute red trenchcoat. It’s also really easy: coat, some high heels, and a fedora – DONE. My husband was the Where’s Waldo guy a few years ago and I think he’ll do it again. How perfect would those two characters be together?
My other idea is Lana from the tv show Archer – love her and love the show!

@Leelee26: this is awesome!!
So far our couples costume ideas are a tortoise and a hare, or BMO and Finn from Adventure Time. I really want to be a bunny but I also really want to be BMO… haha.

last year I was a referee, this year I want to be a burlesque dancer. For the kids costumes, batman, ariel, and for my youngest either scooby doo or thomas the train.

Last year I was Astrid from How to Train your Dragon.
I cut the sleeves off a thrift store sweater and made very simply constructed skirt out of brown faux leather from the fabric store (essentially an a-line wrap skirt, and then I cut out the skirt flaps and sewed/glued them on top). I made the skulls out of the kind of clay that you bake to harden and sharpie marker, the shoulder pads were just plastic knee pads I spray painted with a metallic and stone-effect spray paint. I also used the spray paint on wine corks to make all the spikes and glued them on the skirt and shoulder pads. And I used leather cord for the headband.
My favorite costume ever, though, was the Xena the Warrior Princess costume I used Etsy’s Alchemy feature to commission. It was a thick faux leather with sewn-on golden detailing.
This year, I’m thinking maybe Harley Quinn, though I’m still trying to figure out the best way to make that work while spending >$100 and without buying it from a big box Halloween store. It’s going to be tricky.
ETA: Last year my fiance was grapes. He wore purple and pinned purple balloons all over himself. He couldn’t sit down, but it was pretty awesome for a $3 costume.
