I recently upgraded my center diamond with a much whiter and clearer diamond (brilliant cut, color F-G, VSI). The center stone is in a halo setting and in most lights it is brilliant and sparkling all around. However, in natural shade/no direct sunlight, the center stone looks so much more white than the halo diamonds that it makes the halo look dull. The surrounding diamonds are also round cut, H color, SI clarity.. so not too different than the center stone. Basically, my question is whether it is unavoidable for a halo ring to look perfect in ALL lighting. Has anyone else experienced this? Thank you!

Mine looks sparkly in all lighting…The center stone outshines the smaller ones, but that is just b/c it’s so much bigger…here’s a photo of mine for reference.

@JWhite: I have a cluster, not a halo, but one thing I was firm on during the process was that the stones matched; it would SERIOUSLY bug me if the smaller stones were a noticeably different colour.
Unfortunately, if you buy a stock setting, typically the diamonds are in the H/SI range; so depending on how colour sensitive you are, they will look different to a better quality centre stone.
Given that in your case it’s only an issue in certain lights, I’d just learn to love it TBH.

I Aslo up graded my center diamond, My original was a slightly cloudy G and my new diamond is a VS E tripple ex, so my side accent stone are warmer than my center stone…It doesnt bother me at all, infact I kinda like it because it makes my center diamond look that much better! I also talked to the jewler who made my ring and He said the same thing, and that its what most people want their ring to do.

unless you get all the same color diamonds you may have that issue. It personally wouldn’t bother me, but everyone is different. do you have a picture?

Definitely better than the other way around 🙂
But redoing your setting with better quality melee probably won’t cost that much. Poor quality melee would annoy me too. What’s the point of them if they look blah? As long as they’re not way better than your center diamond (for example THEY are F but it is H, that isn’t the most flattering), they aren’t going to make it look worse by being nice and colorless and clear and sparkly too.

My center stone is an F/G(asha) while my halo stones are Gs. It was important to me that they matched so you would not see a contrast. I agree with the PP and would suggest that you upgrade the melee stones sometime in the future.

My center diamond tends to look warmer in certain lighting than the smaller diamonds..it really doesn’t bother me at all I actually really like the contrast! Most of the time it matches.
