I’m just here to tell you that the name of this thread made me laugh πŸ™‚ I don’t personally have a halo, so not sure what advice I could offer. If I were you, though, just looking at it, I’d either find a new diamond or a new halo if you can afford it.

miasea :  I think the gaps are a design choice, I would just ask the jeweler to reset the diamond without the gaps. I would think that would be the cheaper route than finding the perfect sized diamond. For my ring, my Darling Husband bought the diamond first and the jeweler built the halo around it. There are no gaps, and we even used family diamonds for the halo setting.

miasea :  I would personally look for a different setting because it would be cheaper. A lot of jewelers do upgrades which is a great way not to lose what you paid for the original setting. I have a Halo also and my FI ran into the same problem trying not to have the gaps, so he picked a double halo setting which looks great!

Agreed with the others that this is a design issue. I’d start over and have a setting without an airline custom made for your stone (if budget permits). A seamless halo (no gaps, minimal metal) is a trickier venture than many settings, so if you do decide to go the custom route, choose a jeweler whose work you have seen and admired. Good luck!!

I tried to do this exact same thing with my first engagement ring!  The ring was made with an airline, I didn’t like the airline, so Fiance and I sized up the diamond to fill in the gap.  In the end the larger diamond worked pretty well in reducing the airline effect, but it didn’t completely give me that “seamless” look between the diamond and halo that I was hoping for, so we ended up getting a totally different ring (with no airline!) altogether.  Definitely consult with a jeweler to see what size diamond you’d need to fill in that airline, and good luck!

I have the gap as well and I cannot stand it! FH doesn’t see anything wrong with so I have to leave as is. I asked a couple jewelers what I could do and they said if I didn’t want to change the setting then I needed to get a bigger diamond. I would just go with whatever option is cheaper for you. I know most jewelry stores have an option where you can trade in the diamond and get the amount that it’s worth and apply it to a new purchase but you have to purchase double that amount. Good luck!

When my partner was querying ring designs that I liked, I actually said an emerald cut WITH a gap around it. Am I the only one that likes them ? Haha.
