For the longest time I thought I wanted a solitaire e-ring, but the second I put on this halo, man.. it was game over. In this photo it was a size 6.5, and my finger size is 3.75. The jeweler had to send it out to completely remake the setting, and it’s due back by the end of next week. I’m going nuts in the meantime. I never really thought about what compliments it would receive from other people, but it blows my mind every time I look at it!

I went back and forth about this same exact thing for a really long time.  I think halos are so beautiful but I know that, similarly to the marquise cut, they’re going to age.  Don’t get me wrong, I realize that many women still choose a marquise (my mom got engaged 4 years ago and decided on a marquise) but it has been my experience that they’re generally regarded as “dated”.

I didn’t vote in the poll because I’ve actually found the perfect compromise!!!  My ring is a “hybrid”.  I have a solitaire-eqsue ring with pave band upon initial glance but, when you take a good look, it does in face have a halo, on the side. Everyone is super in love with it!

It gives the classic timelessness that you expect from a solitaire and a major surprise factor with the side halo.  Let me know if you’d like to see pictures, if you think it’s something you may be interested in.  Good luck on your search and remember that anything you decide on will be perfect for you!

raeann1984 :  Funny. size my bf and I were just talking about the halo style tonight! My ring is a halo (haven’t gotten it yet) but I had never paid attention to this style until he sent on my Pinterest board for things I liked and ultimately showed me a pick of what he thought was “me”. Sure enough it’s an oval tanzanite with a halo!! I fell in love because to me it’s extra bling with a classic style; not as big as some Art Deco or other older rings but still interesting!

I have a halo diamond ring but I also have a solitaire CZ for vacations.

Halos get more attention! I feel like round solitaires are a little “has been” although classic. Idk. I did not want a diamond ring that resembles my grandmothers.

PrincessPeach13 :  I know you weren’t directing your comment to me but I am intrigued and I have to see this ring! You are describing something I’m sure I’ve never seen before. Show me the ring! ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜

sherrywithay :  haha, you don’t have to ask me twice! Don’t be put off by the color, she’s much more pastel in person. Idk why she always looks so orange in pictures. It’s hard to get a great pic of the side halo but the lighting in line at dunkin worked out pretty well lol! Please tell.me what you think.

PrincessPeach13 :  ooh yeah I do remember seeing your ring on another thread somewhere. It is beautiful! It’s not something I would wear personally but it’s stunning and unique. I think those side diamonds are creative genius. The color goes perfect with your skin tone as well. It’s just lovely. ๐Ÿ˜˜

Well I’m biased as someone who picked out a solitaire but I get tons of compliments specifically because it isn’t a halo. I also think halos are read as very “American” which I realize is probably most of the Bee but you don’t see it being as much of a worldwide trend as the internet makes it seem.

I have and prefer solitaires.  I have seen some really pretty halos, but I guess I’m more into classic pieces.  Solitaires are timeless.  While halos are beautiful, they are trendy right now and a lot of engagement ring styles in the past have just become dated looking.  However, you can always have the center stone reset in another way later if your halo becomes out of fashion.

My ring is neither huge nor flashy, but I love it and I’ve gotten a lot of compliments on it.  However, I also work a couple of shifts each week behind a bar so I’m constantly handing people drinks and I guess that makes strangers focus on my hands more often than if I were just doing day to day things.

I have a 1 carat princess cut center stone with three pave-set diamonds on either side of it.  It may not be a huge 3-5 carat solitaire, but my boyfriend also bought a more expensive diamond with near flawless cut, color, and clarity.  I didn’t have a say in what he picked out (which I’m actually super happy about), but I’d personally rather have a smaller diamond that looks lit on fire than a larger one that is noticably bad.  Then again, I’d have literally taken anything.
