Get whatever makes you happy! Solitaires are not dull or “blah.”

Actually I went through the whole solitaire vs. halo thing as well, and settled on getting a solitaire (I don’t have it yet, but Fiance said “soon”!)

I think that my reasons for going to the solitaire were practical ones.  I am sort of hard on my jewelry and have had cases of breaking rings, stones falling out.  If I’m being real with myself, I know that I would be knocking my ring on stuff and eventually the little stones would fall out.  I also had the scary experience of losing a one carat diamond at work (luckily a coworker found it in my cubicle!) but it scared me enough to want the simplest, least damage prone ring possible.

Like a PP said here, I hope for an anniversary I could receive a gemstone halo ring to wear on my other hand – I probably would not wear that every single day like I plan to wear my wedding set.

Lastly, I think the terms “dull” and “unexciting” are a bit more deragatory than “plain”.  :/

Perhaps but thats how I feel about solitaires.

Some people think halos are gawdy and too flashy.

Its all about personal taste.

And tact as well.  I guess I’m lucky in that I like both styles.  But you are right, to each their own.

I say wear what you love now and worry about still loving it at 80 when you are actually 80…..because life never comes with guarantees. Smile

im going from a princess cut solitaire to a round cut halo and I see how both can be classic. The solitaire definitely stands the test of time but halos look vintage. My taste changed (especially after looking at rings on the bee lol) and a halo ring is more “me” lol. Whatever makes you happy is what you should get! Like another bee said just go with your gut.

When I first went ring shopping, I didn’t like halos or solitaires! I wanted something entirely differant. So i went with a cluster in a princess setting.

That being said, halos have been growing on me [particularly, 3 stone halos!]. My fi is already talking about upgrading [he feels that we didn’t spend enough, even though I LOVE my ring, he thinks I should have something bigger].

He told me to pick out another ring, so I did :

this one in particular is an asha, but he knows I’d want diamonds. I would like the 3 round diamonds to be pink, and the rest to be clear. Would also like a matching band for the other side of the ring.

I’ve just been thinking about this exact conundrum over the last day!  Another one of my co-workers got engaged yesterday, and her classic colitaire is simply beautiful!  We’ve been waiting together for quite a long while, so she came to let me try her new bling on – and I loved it!  When SO and I last ring shopped, I was torn between halos and solitaires, and now I’m not sure which I REALLY want…and I don’t know if he already has it (I hope so), so I’m afraid to bring it up and rehash it in case it ruins his plans.

I hope you’re able to come to a happy conclusion and settle on what you love!
