I’m in the same boat! We did the elope thing at DH’s parent’s house almost 10 years ago, with only his family & my (now our) four year old daughter in attendance. Now that we’re almost at the 10 year mark, I’ve been given the ‘go ahead’ to have the wedding I always wanted. My Mother will even be there to walk me down the aisle, and that’s HUGE, because she hadn’t walked for almost 5 years! She’s been doing PT for some time now, and her illness has been heading into recession.. she’s been walking with crutches for a few months, and we’re all thrilled!

We’re hoping to have the ceremony in September (I know, hurricane season!), but I haven’t been able to find a venue for less than $1,000 yet that will allow alcohol (beer for DH’s military buddies) & music (he was a DJ, so we’re skipping that expense, thankfully). The local parks don’t allow beer unless you jump thru a zillion hoops, and nothing louder than a boombox. I DID find that the Mariner’s Museum in Newport News has park areas available for a low cost ($300 & under, I think), but you’ve gotta supply more stuff than I have available. Also, you might try Hunt Club Farm- I’m still waiting to hear back from them. Good luck, & please keep me updated if you find anything reasonable!
