we used it, but it was different….I liked it because we were doing a non-religious ceremony, and you really have to search for things to include in your ceremony without God or something in it. But we cried pretty much through the whole thing: (Sorry, our names are in it) Oh, and its longer than I thought, sorry. I also can’t change the size on here…at the end we turned it into the pronouncement as well.

Brianne, please face David, and hold his hands, palms up, so you may see the gift that they are to you. These are the hands of your best friend, young and strong and vibrant with love, that are holding yours on your wedding day, as he promises to love you all the days of his life. These are the hands that will work along side yours, as together you build your future, as you laugh and cry, as you share your innermost secrets and dreams. These are the hands you will place with expectant joy against your stomach, until he too feels his child stir within you. These are the hands that look so large and strong, yet will be so gentle as he holds your child for the first time. These are the hands that will work long hours for you and your new family. These are the hands that will passionately love you and cherish you through the years for a lifetime of happiness. These are the hands that will countless times wipe the tears from your eyes; tears of sorrow and tears of joy. These are the hands that will comfort you in illness, and hold you when fear or grief overwhelm you. These are the hands that will tenderly lift your chin and brush your cheek as they raise your face to look into his eyes: eyes that are filled with his overwhelming love and desire for you.David, please hold Brianne’s hands, palms up, so that you may see the gift that they are to you. These are the hands of your best friend, smooth, young, and carefree, that are holding yours on your wedding day, as she promises to love you all the days of her life. These are the hands that will hold you in joy and excitement and hope each time she tells you that you are to have a child, that together you have created new life. These are the hands that will hold each child in tender love, soothing them through illness and hurt, supporting and encouraging them along the way, and knowing when it is time to let go. These are the hands that will hold you tight as you struggle through difficult times. These are the hands that will comfort you when you are sick, or console you when you are grieving. These are the hands that will passionately love you and cherish you through the years, for a lifetime of happiness. These are the hands that will give you support as she encourages you to chase down your dreams. Together as a team, everything you wish for can be realized.Bless these hands that you see before you this day. May they always be held by one another. Give them strength to hold on during the storms of stress and the dark of disillusionment. Keep them tender and gentle as they nurture each other in their wondrous love. Help these hands to continue building a relationship founded in grace, rich in caring, and devoted to reaching for protection. May David and Brianne see their four hands as healer, protector, shelter and guide. Give the highest priority to the tenderness, gentleness and kindness that your connection deserves. When frustration, difficulty or fear assail your relationship – as they threatened all relationships at one time or another – remember to focus on what is right between you, not only the part that seems wrong. In this way you can ride out the times when clouds hide the face of the sun in your lives – remembering that even if you lose sight of it for a moment, the sun is still there. And if each of you take responsibility for the quality of your lives together, your life will be marked by abundance and delight.Inasmuch as you have consented together in this ceremony to live in wedlock and have sealed your vows in the presence of family and friends and by the giving of these rings, it gives me great pleasure to pronounce that you are Husband and Wife.

We’re doing a "Blessing of the Hands" and we took the Hand Blessing and embellished it with our own wording and added in parts of an Irish Wedding Blessing:

E and D, please face each other and hold hands, so you may feel the gift that you are to one another.

These are the hands of your best friend, young and strong and vibrant with love, that are holding yours on your wedding day as you promise to love each other all the days of your lives.

These are the hands that will work alongside yours, that will give you support and encouragement, as together you build your future and share your innermost hopes and dreams.

These are the hands that will passionately love you and cherish you through the years, for a lifetime of happiness and even when wrinkled with time will still be reaching for yours, still giving you the same unspoken tenderness with just a touch.

These are the hands that will tenderly hold your children and help you hold your family as one.

These are the hands that will countless times wipe tears from your eyes; tears of sorrow and tears of joy.

These are the hands that will comfort you in illness, console you when you are grieving and hold you tight, offering you strength and courage in the face of adversity.

These are the hands that will enter the Union of Matrimony. These four hands will be your armor and shield against the evils and temptations of the world.

These are the hands that will reach out, first to each other, then united, and will spread your love to all they touch.

God, bless these hands that you see before you this day. May they always be held by one another. Give them the strength to hold on during the storms of stress and the dark of disillusionment. Keep them tender and gentle as they nurture each other in their wondrous love. Help these hands to continue building a relationship founded in your grace, rich in caring, and devotion. May Ed and Debi see their four hands as healer, protector, shelter, and guide.

May your mornings bring joy and your evenings bring peace.
May your troubles grow few as your blessings increase.
May the saddest day of your future
Be no worse than the happiest day of your past.
May your hands be forever clasped in friendship
And your hearts joined forever in love.
Your lives are very special,
God has touched you in many ways.
May his blessings rest upon you
And fill all your coming days.

I’ve seen a variation of the same text and we’re using it in our ceremony too! We wanted to do a handfasting ritual (i.e. "tying the knot") without pagan or neopagan references to elements or the God & Goddess. So we thought that this passage would work perfectly as a lead-in! Depending how many wraps we decide to use in the handfasting, we may coordinate the number of "these are the hands…" lines to the number of wraps. 🙂

I don’t know why my post didn’t show up, so if it double posts, I apologize in advance.

We’re using the Blessing of the Hands, during our ceremony also. We changed a few lines to make it more US and also added an Irish Wedding Blessing:

Ed and Debi, please face each other and hold hands, so you may feel the gift that you are to one another.

May your mornings bring joy and your evenings bring peace.May your troubles grow few as your blessings increase.May the saddest day of your future be no worse than the happiest day of your past. May your hands be forever clasped in friendship and your hearts joined forever in love. Your lives are very special, God has touched you in many ways. May his blessings rest upon you and fill all your coming days
