Hi there bees, long time reader here. Now that my wedding invites are finally ready to go (!), I have been having a difficult time pinning down the best way to get hand cancelling done in NYC. I have read many posts here and elsewhere warning that even if you can get a post office to let you hand cancel, the envelopes often go through a machine anyway and can get ruined. Is there any way to avoid that? Has anyone had any recent good (or bad) experiences in NYC?
And a more general question: Did you get your wedding invites hand cancelled? Please vote!

This is more of a question I guess… If you take the invitations to someplace like mail boxes, etc where they charge more but are smaller would it be helpful with this? It would seem you could control it more in a situation like that.

I couldn’t really answer the poll because I had a mixed experience — for my save-the-dates, I went to post office on 38th b/w 7th and 8th aves. They were supposed to hand cancel them (I had oversized postcards — oops!) but ran them through the machine anyway. They also quoted me three different postage costs on each of the three occasions I went there to drop off the postcards. It was beyond frustrating!
I had a much better experience with my invites at the main post office on 34th street/8th ave. They were hand cancelled properly and also the service I got was far better than any of the other post offices.

that’s a very good question. Would love to hear if any Bees have found a place like Mailboxes, etc. to be more helpful for this.

thanks so much for sharing your experience. Sorry to hear about your save the dates – that is so frustrating! I will definitely steer towards the 34th street/8th avenue location. Fingers crossed!
