My soon to be in-laws recently had a fire at their house. Fortunately, no one was hurt but the house was more damaged than they thought. They will be unable to live in the house until mid-September so right now they are in a hotel.
We are sending out our invitations soon and, since their mail is being forwarded, we’d like to hand deliver the invitations to them. Do you think this would be appropriate?

I don’t see why not.
ETA: I hand delivered my parents’ invitation just because I wanted to. I was exicted. 🙂

Absolutely this is an instance that you can throw etiquette out the window! Poor IL’s

We hand delivered all the invitations we could…then you know they’ve definitely got them.

Proper etiquette does NOT require invitations to be mailed. There is no throwing etiquette out the window on this one. Back in the day before the world depended on the postal service to delivery everything, invitations were hand delivered and it was considered the very proper way to do so.
The only time this would be a problem is if there are others around who are not being invited to the wedding.
OP – I hope your IL’s home is repaired quickly and they are able to recover from this. What a tragedy!
