I used to use it 2x a day or more before I realized it was dulling the rhodium finish on my ring.

I try to avoid the bling when using hand sanitizer, as opposed to taking them off. If I’m wearing my pearl or opal rings, I take them off.

I don’t use hand sanitizer or lotion with my rings on. It leaves a film over your diamond, over a period of time. Even with other gems  same thing. I don’t even leave them on when I wash my hands. I wash my hands with dish soap, when possible – hand soap leaves a film

thehappywife11:  I don’t think it actually damages it but it leaves a film over my diamond and I don’t really like the feel of it under my ring so I always take my rings off.

    Good to know.

Also I would add rhodium is a very hard, 800 HV, but brital metal compared to other metals in jewelry. Anything you could do to reduce wear a rodium plated ring will help increase the time between replating. Part of the wear from sanitizer I believe comes from the additional rubbing of the surface of the ring. This will remove imperceptible flakes of rhodium from the plating of a ring thus causing quicker wear.

    Good points.

I also take my rings off when I have on more than 1. This is to avoid banging a ring on my left hand against a ring on my right

I’m a nurse so I have to wash my hands or use purell 1000x a day and I haven’t noticed damage but it gunks up my ring pretty good and makes my diamond look cloudy since there’s product stuck underneath it.
