I think it’s a good idea, but I’d go with down-loading the typewriter font…if you make a mistake typing, you have to throw the whole thing away.  At least with printing them from the comp you get a chance to proof read them.

Doooooo it!  (and post pictures)  I LOVE this idea.  For a little while I was pondering hand writing all of our invitations – it’s super personal, my handwriting is all right, and I love the idea of personally inviting our loved ones to this party.  But time got away, and I found some really pretty paper, blah blah blah.  In retrospect, I would have liked them better (and they would have been cheaper) if I’d just written them.  I think the same things apply to typing them, except you don’t have to worry about your handwriting.  Bonus!

If you will get joy out of actually doing the project, then go for it. I think it is totally cute and they will turn out awesome. But if you’re going to get a quarter of the way through and hate yourself for it and get stressed out, then just use some sort of typewriter font and have them printed.

Another idea: maybe you could print your own invitations and then just use the typewriter for your names or other text that you leave room for. That way you don’t have to type the entire thing, but you still get the look and feel you’re going for.

@soychai – i agree with you – a well played invitation does set the tone for the wedding and a level of anticipation that you probably wouldn’t get with a generic set. People love getting mail, especially invitation mail, and DOUBLE ESPECIALLY a kick ass set.
