“I am getting old enough to not worry about my own reproductive rights, and have no children. But I worry about family, friends and what this generation will face. Today crushed me and I could only go home and watch The Handmaids Tale and cry. Every week things get worse. And while some say it can’t get as bad as the show…. I hope everyone is aware of the push for a Constitutional Convention/Convention of States. Things could absolutely change that quickly. We need to organize and fight.”
YES TO ALL OF THIS. At my age reproductive rights won’t be a huge issue for me personally but I cried yesterday thinking about all my friends with daughters. And my nieces whose own parents did this to them. My niece recently had me help her with a debate she was taking part in at her catholic school and she had picked women’s right to choose to argue for, she was very passionate about it and I was so thrilled and proud of her when I learned this. Well, her own parents did their part to take that away from her and ensure she has less rights growing up and in adulthood than her mother did. And her parents are pro choice! They are the ones that called and asked me to help her! They are just IGNORANT voters that liked trumps vulgarity & started to believe some of his b.s.. It makes me positively sick.
The constitutional convention/convention of states scare the shit out of me. It should scare all of us.
I think the vast majority of people greatly underestimate what the forces in this party want to achieve, what their full vision of remaking this country is and what it looks like. In conversations I’ve had with trump voters know personally, they don’t have a clue what they are talking about, completely misinformed and ignorant. I know not all trump voters are, some legit want a Gilead USA. I think most actually don’t don‘t.
Dan rather made a good point yesterday:
For decades, Republicans have been able to have it all ways. Promise a radical reactionary rethink of American democracy to its rabid base, and hide behind a court that protected them from what would be a very unpopular set of policies with the general public. Well no longer.
Do we really want to outlaw abortion? We may soon know. Do we really believe we can attack gay rights and other rights at unprecedented levels? We may soon know. Do we really believe that our corporations should have unfettered power and workers have relatively none? Here again, the movement is already afoot.
The farce is shattered, the fig leaf has disappeared.
I am so angry at my friends and family. I can’t even. I am so sad for my country.
Sorry such a long post. I just wanted to compliment yours, but then went into a full on vent.
