I just picked up my new glasses this morning! I just go to the optical shop next to my eye dr… It never occurred to me to shop around. The ones I got were about $800 before insurance, but I only had to pay $180, which I don’t think is too bad.

I switched over to contacts at 11, but I still like to give my eyes a break once in a while and wear glasses for a few days. I go through America’s Best. They have incredibly cheap prices. I was able to get a pair of glasses ( no anti-scratch or anything like that, and I went with plastic lenses despite the eye doctor recommending otherwise ) for under $60. They’re cute. They’re the trendy, chunky, black plastic frames, and they have held up for over a year.
For $99, I was able to get a free eye exam for the next 3 years for my contacts. I hate the stupid rule where you have to be examined every year. I always forget to get examined before my prescription for contacts expires. This is what sold me on America’s Best.
I have mild astigmatism and a contact prescription of -5, -3.75. I don’t know my glasses precription offhand.

@cranraspberry: That is so much less than what I paid for basically the same things I needed! Making a note for the future 🙂

@iiiEllie: I bought this pair of frames from clearly contacts, as sunglasses! Unfortunately for me, they look A LOT cuter on you than they do on me. Boo.
I luuuuuurve clearlycontacts! I will never buy in a store again. Last summer I bought a pair of glasses at lenscrafters – it was a special clearance. The frame was free, and the lenses were half off. It was still $250 bucks. I was able to get TWO pairs for $250 at clearlycontacts.
I have to stop now because I sound like an ad.

@Lulume: I use coastal.com. I use their first pair free deal for a major discount. The first pair I bought was around $100, the next pair I’m getting will be about $150 or so. My eyesights not awful, like I can get by without correction, but I do have astigmatism and my night vision is horrendous.

@EllEmm005: yes, they have a 30 day no questions asked refund policy, so it’s basically a risk-free trial. 🙂 I was pretty apprehensive about buying glasses online, but ended up loving the whole experience and bought a pair of sunglasses from them as well (first prescription sunglasses ever!).

I have probably 15 pairs of glasses and the most expensive pair was $27. They have buy one get one half off right now. Totally worth it.
