So the dreaded 3-0 hit me today… But guess what?! I feel ok about it!
I mean I am not thrilled that my twenties are over (my twenties felt like they went FOREVER!), I’m not thrilled at the prospect of getting new wrinkles or sagging in some place which have always been rather perky but in the end I have lived a pretty damn good life so far.
So many people keep asking me if I feel old, if I feel like I haven’t accomplished enough. So what that I’ve only just gotten married in the last 3 months? So what that I haven’t had children yet (I do not believe that giving birth defines a woman)? I have done some amazing things in my 30 years:
- I’ve been with the same man since I was 17 and we’re in a healthy stable marriage. He is literally my best friend, has been since I was 15 years old and I know that we’ve got many more adventures to live through together.
- I’ve studied a higher education
- I’ve travelled A LOT and lived abroad briefly
- I bought a house
- I have two magnificent dogs that I love like they were my actual children!
- I have a great career
I think my life is pretty fantastic and honestly I don’t feel or even look 30 (or old for that fact), so HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME and here’s to rest of my life being filled with love, adventure and happiness!!!
P.S. this article was a great read today when I did feel a little down: http://www.glamour.com/sex-love-life/2011/07/turning-30-on-your-thirtieth-birthday-you-suddenly-become-an-old-person-right-wrong
P.P.S. to the “so called friend” who pasted this zinger on my FB wall “Happy 30th old gal, try to enjoy the onslaught of grey hairs, sore joints and fading memories ;)” SCREW YOU! You have officially become the worst friend in history
