- Wedding: May 2015
My FI finally propsoed after three long years of knowing we were soul mates! I really couldn’t be happier! I’m definitely one of those girls that has been dreaming of their wedding day for a long time. I’ve been obsessed with anything wedding related since I was in middle school. TLC and any movie with weddings in it is how I loved to spent my time. Somehow though, the wedding part seems insignificant now, because all I can think about is how happy I am to forever be his! 🙂
Well here’s how the engagement went:
We were feeling unsure about how to spend new years, we live in a small town/rural area and the only big events cost way too much money to go to. We had been looking at our dream ring for about a year and he finally ordered it over a month ago but would never tell me when it came in or when he paid it off. I had asked him the other day if he had at least seen it and if it had turned out and he wouldn’t tell me anything except he had over $1,500 to pay off on it yet and I wouldn’t have it for a while.
Well, our original plan was to just go to Mexican for dinner, buy a couple bottles of wine, and watch movies at his parents house. But last minute he came to my house early, helped do dishes, make my bed, take out garbage and vaccum so we could leave sooner. We actually went ice fishing up at Lake Shetek (we camp there a lot in the summer) and borrow his dad’s ice house. He stopped at a little gas station so I could use the restroom (so I wouldn’t have to use a bucket on the lake) and while I was in the restroom he must have said somehting to the older ladies that were working because they had big grins on and let me have a cup of coffee on the house.
Once we got to the ice house he was seeming really nervous and worried that the night wasn’t going perfectly. I said, “Why does it matter? It’s just any other night, we’re just fishing.” He said, “Because I want us to have a good new years.” Well I sat down by the propane heater to warm up while he drilled the holes in the ice and set up fishing poles. At one point he went to his jacket hanging up and then started to pretend to be fixing something on the ground, when he looked up at me, he shined his headlamp in my eyes to purposefully almost blind me. I said “What the heck are you doing?! I can’t see a thing you’re blinding me!!” Next thing I know, he turned off the lamp, was on one knee and he said:
“Even if we don’t catch any fish tonight, would you keep me as your keeper?” Pulled out the ring, and then asked me to marry him!!
Obviously I was in shock at first and said, “are you kidding me?? I wasn’t expecting this tonight at all!” and clearly I said yes! After that we spent another couple hours attempting to fish with no luck, and then packed up and left for his dad’s house to drop off the ice house keys. My Fiance proposed closer to 8:30 at night on the 31st, so we spent the actual new years at his dad’s house, and both of his brothers and his half sister were there and they were all so excited and supportive of us!
It truly was one of the best nights of my life. My Fiance had always told me how nervous he was that he wasn’t romantic at all and wouldn’t give me the proposal of my dreams. But I tried to help him by saying, “think of something we both enjoy doing and a place we both love to be.” Well we’re an outdoorsy couple and winter is our favorite time of year. Plus the lake is a place to fish, hike, and camp at a lot during the summer so it made sense. And his way of asking couldn’t have been sweeter!
Truly was the perfect proposal! And he did an amazing job picking out the ring I think!!
This diamond will literally blind you when the light hits it just right! It’s a 3/4 carat center stone with a 20 point halo (4 points on it are bigger) and two damonds on each side. It’s designed to be a little but of a floral look. He chose the center stone all by himself! I will have to add more pictures after i take more! 😀
