Non amonia windex is good, although if you have white gold that may cause problems.

We have hard water too and I use windex, dawn dishwashing liquid, and vinegar.  I also have some jewelry cleaning liquid that came with my steam jewerly cleaning machine.

One thing I did once was heated up some vinegar on the stove, held my ring over the steam using a fork to prevent burning myself.  It really cleaned it beautifully!  I also often quickly blow dry the ring so the mineral build up doesn’t have a chance to leave a film!

I’ve done both ways, and I do remember that the steam just seemed to really clean in all the little crevices!

Won’t hurt diamond at all, do you have white gold?  I would do a little research on white gold, as it’s usually coated in rhodium, and I’m not sure about the effect of vinegar on that.

Oh with rose gold you’re good!  There is no “coating” on that, so it’s okay!  Yes a steamer tray would work great!  Tell me if you see a difference using the steam.

Also, take it out, rinse in water, and seriously, run to your blow dryer!  It makes a big difference to not allow that film to build up!

I have hard water too and I’ve never thought of it before but my rings aren’t as sparkly as they once were. You may be on to something. Maybe try those water filters on your sink. I have been meaning to get one.

maocat :  my wedding band is 10k rose gold. I clean my rings daily, without removing tgem, using a soft toothbrush and liquid hand soap and they seems to stay pretty shiny. If I want them extra shiny I use a Fabuluster cloth.

I clean mine everyday. My water is extremely hard. I get white spots and buildup on EVERYTHING. With my ring I boil water for my tea and use the leftover for the ring. It seems boiling helps a LOT. I also hit it with the steamer from the coffee machine sometimes if you have an espresso machine. I have used vinegar and it works beautifully but if your ring has any type of enhancement DO NOT do it! I soaked a clarity enhanced stone once too long and the enhancement came out. As PP stated, drying immediately after is also quite helpful.

You can buy a gallon of distilled water or regular bottled water and rinse with it to avoid your hard water issues. Pour a small amount in a bowl, and after cleaning with vinegar or ammonia or Dawn, drop the ring in and swish around a bit.
