That is ROUGH. I went from local government (4 hrs vacation and 4 hrs sick per 2-wk paycheck, like 13 holidays (including Presidents Day, MLK, etc), and 2 personal days) to a private company of about 100-150 employees.
Only 2 weeks vacation and one we have to use for Christmas because they close down the office and only pay us the actual holidays. We get.. I think about 7 days of sick. And no personal. And, of course, fewer holidays. I HATE that all being so much less!! I used to have more like 3 weeks sick and 3 weeks vacation before!
That said, I’ve heard that what I have is considered typical for a lot of people with 2 weeks vacation and less than that for sick. I also have friends at trendier companies like Under Armour who get ACTUAL paid maternity leave, or no sick bank but you can work from home, you don’t have to use time off if you are gone less than 4 hours for your appointment, etc. It’s bewildering and makes me green with jealousy.
That said, my job pays more than my last one, is doing work closer to what I wanted, and I like the place. If it was as terrible in PTO as yours.. that would be tough. I was miserable at my last place so I was anxious to get out! But I can’t speak for you. :/
