So I recently discovered that the church I’m getting married in does not allow recorded music. So I have to select the instrument(s) that I want used during the ceremony. I want to the ceremony to be very classic and I just can’t affort a string trio that I would like. So I am debating between the organ and the harp. I think a harp would be a nice elegant touch, but will it be too cheesy? I also don’t know if the sound will fill up the church (150 ppl). I assume since people use them for outdoor ceremonies that the sound carries nicely.
If anyone has experience with what they think is the best instrument to use for an indoor ceremony, please let me know!

I’m hiring an organist because I want seriously loud music- especially for when we walk back up the aisle as man and wife 🙂
A harp would be lovely, but I didn’t go for a harp or string ensemble because the loud exit music was not something I wanted to give up.

ooohh i LOVE the harp!! i wanted a harp soloist over the organ, but fiance wants the string quartet and offered to cover it so thats what we’re going with. cheesy: no, classic and beautiful: YES!! go for it :o) i’m jealous :o) also, i think they can use a small mic or something but they definately make the sound enough for the building they are playing in.

We’re definitely having the organist from our church (the priest doesn’t even really give you a choice!), but she suggested that she often works with a harp. I don’t know if that’s in your budget or not, since it depends a lot on your church and their fees, but I say both!
If not possible, definitely organ. It’s so glorious.

I’m glad you asked…I’m having a harp and could not be more excited. My church has an amazing organ, but I feel like I’ve heard the same songs by an organ at so many weddings. I’ve never been to one with a harp so I can’t really answer any of your questions, but I’m super excited to hear mine.
I used youtube to compare the different songs for the day, since I didn’t really know what they’d sound like on a harp. I found it very useful.
