Hmmm. I think your best bet is to call the music school’s and ask for their harpist names & numbers- or to have the music office pass along your name to a student/instructor who happens to be a harpist.

I used to work a lot with USC, UCLA, Cal State Long Beach, Cal State Fullerton, & Chapman University music prof’s and student musicians. They are all wonderful and approachable people. And with these tough economic times, I think it is a great idea to hire a professor or struggling student to have a gig.

So just go based off where your venue location is. Call the school nearby it, and start asking for rates. Compare all the rates to what you can afford, and if need be, ask them to send you a recording- and offer to pay for the postage. More than likely people will be alright with doing so.

Just start by calling the main music school’s office number. It’s not unusual at all to have the school make requests for you on your behalf- and sometimes they will outright recommend someone! =o)
