My boyfriend and I started looking at rings about 3 months into dating. What can I say, we just knew. It has been a long process–we have just reached our 1 year mark and technically we are still not actually engaged. I mean, the stone is here, the setting is being made, but the proposal has not happened yet. Anyway, what I thought I wanted and what it has become completely changed–including the stone. A few months ago we thought we found the perfect stone. A gorgeous 2 CT J SI1 with only a white cloud in the center–impossible to see without a loop (and I have eagle eye vision–I can ALWAYS see black flaws. It’s a curse). We were lucky enough to get introduced to a supplier. A stone like that would be crazy out of our price range otherwise—and trust me, it was still a small fortune. One day I woke up and just was hit–this is so freaking stupid. I am about to start my life with the man who I knew 1 month in I was going to marry–the man who I believe is my soul mate (and I have NEVER believed in soul mates). We are about to have a wedding, start a family, and buy a home. Am I REALLY ok with putting that kind of money into the RING? The answer was no. So, I started looking at moissanites.
God they are beautiful, but again, I have eagle eye vision–I can tell a moissanite in the sun RIGHT AWAY. The rainbowy fire that I see in the FB and F1 is really hard for me to get past. Then I found Harro. It is said to behave more like a diamond than the others and from the pictures I have seen, it did MOST OF THE TIME. But most of the reviews I found on the Harro were in reference to their crushed ice stones or other cuts and I wanted to specifically find something on an OEC. Very little luck. The only 2 videos I could find on the Harro OEC made it look quite glassy and I have heard others talk about Harros looking glassy (although I suspect now they have only seen photos). Finally, I contacted Harro gem and sent them an email asking about their return policy. I was considering ordering a round brilliant and an OEC and ending one back, but I wanted them in a warmer tone (I am setting it in rose gold and I don’t like the extreme contrast of a colorless stone and rose gold–looks costumey to me). They wrote me back right away–I misspelled my email so they actually TEXTED ME which I thought was awesome. They told me they could do a GHI stone but it would be considered a custom order and therefore nonrefundable so they asked why I was on the fence between the two. I explain honestly my concerns over it looking glassy so they sent me some videos. The first one still looked glassy in the video to me, but the second one looked crazy sparkly and wasn’t under a spotlight.
Ultimately, we decided to take the plunge and order the Harro OEC. I was crazy nervous–even though we are saving like 10k by going moissanite, we didn’t want to THROW AWAY 1k because of a bad decision. It came in the mail yesterday and I have to say that I am exhilarated with the result. It sparkles like crazy–the photos and videos DO NOT do it justice. In person, it is even more beautiful but you will notice in the videos and photos that there is not a ton of rainbow fire. There is SOME, similar to a diamond–but not nearly as many red, orange, blue, and green flashes as you typically see with other moissanites. So, if you are looking specifically for something that is more “diamond-like” than I have to say–I VERY MUCH recommend Harro. If you love flashes of fire–I would go more with the Amora, F1 or FB.
My only drawback is that I can tell is it G color and I really did want something a little closer to an I/J. I know, I am weird. I just like the warmth. It certainly isn’t a big enough drawback to make me regret my decision 🙂 I have also heard people say that the Harros can look cloudy in photos? I assure you that the one I recieved has no cloudiness in person. I just wish my iphone camera could capture what it looks like in person.
