So I noticed this around the hive a bit, some avid twi-hards and twi-haters. And I’ve noticed some people compare these two fantasy series so I’m curious to see, who is a Potter fan, who is a Twi-hard, who is both and who is neither! 🙂
I personally appreciated both. I was into the Twilight books before it became a movie series and was severely disappointed by the movies – they chose an AWFUL Edward, I cannot stand Rob Pattinson and Kristen Stewart is just OK. Though I do like Taylor Lautner for Jacob.
Harry Potter I REALLY loved, the movies were incredible and the cast was… ahhh perfect. I might like HP a little more than Twilight, but I am a fan of both.
NOTE: TO VOTE you HAVE TO HAVE seen/read both!! 🙂

I love them both and I can’t wait for Hunger Games. Have you read that series?

I love both! HP is part of my late teens/early 20’s, and Twillight is my late 20’s/early 30’s.

I am like you, I LOVE LOVE LOVE Harry Potter and I like Twilight. The movies for both have been frustrating at times but Twilight is a lot more frustrating because Kristen Stewart makes me want to scream because she has no emotion in her acting!

I’m by no means a hater, but I never got into either Harry Potter or Twilight. Maybe I’m missing out, but I’m okay with it. 🙂

I LOVE Harry Potter! I think a lot of the reason why is because I feel like I literally grew up with the characters (how cheesy!!!). I was 12 I think when I read the first one and I stayed pretty close in age with the characters as the books came out. I felt like I was always waiting for the next HP book and I’m kind of sad now that I don’t have that exciting anticipation anymore! I’ve read the books multiple times. I also loved the movies and thought the casting was perfect in almost every scenario.
I read Twilight when the books came out and I really liked the books a lot. I obviously didn’t distinguish them as some great literary work but it was entertaining and I thought that the characters were engaging. I very strongly dislike the movies and thought the casting was horrible, I only went to see the first and the experience was not something I wanted to repeat. Sadly, I think the first movie ruined the books for me. I went to reread them and I couldn’t get into it anymore. Maybe it’s because I associate Kristen Stewart with Bella now or maybe because I’ve matured. I’m not sure.
My choice is definitely Harry Potter. It seems more timeless to me, I can see myself still getting into them in 10 or 20 years!

Harry Potter all the way! I waited in line for the last HP book but Twilight was more of a curiosity thing and I can wait for those movies to come out on DVD

Exactly! I find I get way more into the HP movies because the acting is better. I like Twilight but I love the Harry Potter movies a bit more.

Me too, I find that now that I’ve seen the Twilight movies it’s hard for me to get back into the books!

I’ve read all the books and seen all the movies, and I like it all. I’m not really a super huge fan of any of them, though. The Twilight soundtracks are always so amazing, though!

I’ve read both series, and I liked both of them for different reasons. I love Harry Potter for the deep literary/philosophical themes. The books draw me in every time, and they’re so well written, I really feel for the characters. Also, the movies are just amazing. Really well-done with fatastic writing and acting. I like Twilight, though, too. I take the books for what they are: fast, easy, and entertaining. Although I just don’t like the movies that much, I think Taylor Lautner is cute. 🙂 I feel like such a dirty old woman saying that, lol, but he IS cute, and he has a sweet personality in real life!

Totally agree with everything you’ve said.
I’m going to read my kids HP as a bedtime story… I won’t be doing the same for Twilight. (Though I do read them as a “beach book” or throw in a movie during a bubble bath or something like that.)
Thanks to HP, I’m getting graduate degrees in English, so I think it’s pretty clear where my loyalties lie. I’ve written a bunch of academic papers on the series, which is more fun than work!

I love HP, I think both the books and movies are of a higher quality, but I also like Twilight bc it’s entertaining. I’ve never seen a Twilight movie in the theater, though I saw all the HP movies in the theater. I read the HP books right as they came out, whereas I reade Twilight once they were out mostly bc I saw the first movie bc I was curious about all the hype, and then I wanted to know what happens next 🙂

Harry Potter, no contest.

HP all the way! Maybe I’ll watch the Twilight movies once the whole hype is over, but not sure…
Now that HP is over I’m really glad we have the Hunger Games to keep me occupied. I read the books in one day each and am eagerly awaiting the movie in March!
