    @Nicoley1985: I think you have to watch and/or read harry potter in the right order from start to finish to really appreciate it. If you just watch it in pieces it really doesn’t give you the full effect of series. It really isn’t even the story that is so great it is basically just the meaning behind the series; The books came out in 1997 when I was in grade 3 (our librarian read it to us) and the last movie just finished this summer, so it basically spanned a huge chunk of our childhood for everyone in and around my age. The HP movies are ones you can watch over and over again, which can’t be said for many movies.

    That said, if you don’t watch them it is not the end of the world. I have some friends that are HP obsessed to the point of Tattoos, dressing up, conventions etc, personally I just think they are great movies and everyone should have a chance to appreciate them.

    I love reading, and in my opinion Harry Potter is a much better written book. I just get into the story and feel like I’m in the character’s heads and seeing the details much better. And I like the story better, there’s that too. The boy craziness of Twilight just bothers me. This does an excellent job of explaining how I feel about it…I have no interest in characters who think being stalked and controlled is romantic, flee into the woods to hide from danger, etc. Someone else posted it on another thread and I had to save it.

    And HP fans should check out this link, it’s very funny but too long for me to post here: http://danceofthemasks.blogspot.com/2010/12/why-ronhermione-pws-bellaedward-not.html

    Hmmm…. I can’t say I like both equally, because I love HP above and beyond Twilight, but I did enjoy Twilight as a light read. Gotta say I thought The Host was way better though.

    I’ve read both series and I’ve seen all of the movies (except for Breaking Dawn).

    I hated Twilight. I read it to see how the story goes, but in my opinion I think Stephenie Meyer is a terrible writer; and the movies were terribly directed, written, cast, and acted.

    I LOVE Harry Potter. The books, the movies, the writing, the directing, the acting, basically everything about it.

    @Wonderstruck: LOVE that picture.

    That’s the main beef I have with Twilight. Waaaaay too melodramatic and I do think it isn’t the best example with impressionable young teenage girls (I swear my teenage cousin and her relationship problems stem from being so obsessed with the series).

    @reginaphalange: Yeah, it’s just…kind of creepy. For an adult who just wants a fantasy escapist light read or movie, fine. And yes, of course some younger girls can like Twilight and not think relationships should work that way – but there are many more who think Edward is just so romantic and they want a boyfriend who loves them that much. And that’s a bit scary!

    I’ve been a die-hard HP fan since I was 13 and a friend forced me to watch the first movie. Two weeks after that, I’d read books 1-4 and was obsessed for life haha (got a late start because I grew up in schools that condemned the books). A lot of great memories from my teen years/college years were related to Harry Potter, and I’ve found a lot of comfort in the themes (especially the way Rowling processes death through Harry, Luna and Dumbledore) and characters.

    Twilight… I’ll admit, I was prejudiced from the start after hearing so much about them. But a couple of years ago, I figured why not give it a fair chance? I have to say, I don’t understand what’s appealing about ANY of it. The writing is terrible, everyone knows that. But the characters are just… lacking in any redeemable qualities, to me. Bella is consumed by her obsession with Edward and has no discernable personality or even a hobby outside of him and Edward is of course all jealous and stalky, all the time. Idk, I just don’t see the draw, and it does bother me somewhat the messages that the author is sending to the impressionable young teenage/preteen fan base she knows she has.

    Granted, the only book I read cover-to-cover was the first. But after seeing all of the films and reading enough reviews/summaries I just… I waver between wanting to laugh my butt off and rip my hair out. lol!

    I LOVE Harry Potter. Twilight is eh… I read them and watched the movies, but they are no HP.
