I didn’t dread it, but 9 months later, I still see my full name and think “who the F is that?”

I did not. What are you dreading most? Have you considered NOT changing your name? You have that option and if it’s something you feel strongly about, you should discuss it with your Fiance.

i put it off for 4 months because i dreaded the thought of going through all the work to change it. it actually wasn’t even close to being as much of a pain as i thought it would. it was super easy!

I dreaded the idea of it, so I didn’t do it. I told my Darling Husband that I would think about it more and change if I felt the need to and I haven’t wanted to do it.

I looked forward to it! I was excited to be a Mrs, and the actual process of changing it was pretty simple.

@rozzy:  if you’re dreading it, what about not changing it?

Yes! At first, I refused to because DH’s father (whose last name he carries) was a dead bead dad. Up and left his mom with three kids when Darling Husband was really young for another woman and never paid child support or communicated with his children again. (DH’s younger brother in fact has his mother’s maiden name instead of biological dad’s.) I guess I felt that such a person did not “deserve” to have their legacy carried on. BUT, fast forward almost 7 years, and we’re starting to think about having kids. The idea of our family not all sharing a name really bothers me (personal quirk I guess), so a few weeks ago, I finally legally added DH’s last name to my own–even though we aren’t TTC yet. (I couldn’t convince him to drop his and take mine instead :P) We will probably incorporate both surnames into our future child(ren)’s birth certificate(s) as well.

I look forward to having the new name.  But, I’m not excited about the work of changing it.
