I definitely think it could work. You could do something like this:

Or the same kind of thing only with the sleeves going off the shoulder instead of like straps (couldn’t find a picture…hopefully that kind of makes sense).

There’s always the option of just adding straps (spaghetti or thicker, depending on what you want) if you don’t really want sleeves but don’t want the strapless.

I do think it could work very well, though. Ultimately it’s whatever you think looks best and are most comfortable with. 🙂

I wanted to add straps to my strapless gown so badly.  (I fear the “naked bride” look in pictures.)  My [very talented] seamstress said that the only straps I could add without her reconstructing the bodice was spaghetti straps.  I’m contemplating it.

if you could find coordinating lace, you could probably do a lace keyhole “build-on”.  it would be like adding lace cap sleeves, except the sleeves would be connected in the center above your shoulders and fasten with a button or three.  let me see if i can find some pictures, but i know i’ve seen this on the bee before.

Lulusmom has a good point; you may want to talk to a seamstress about it and see what options are available. That way you don’t get your heart set on something only to find out it can’t be done.

Not the dress I ended up in, but I sort of mocked up adding cap sleeves in the bridal salon when I was looking:

Something like that is apparently a REALLY simple alteration that requires little more than some extra lace and a few stitches.
