Congrats on your trip! I went about five years ago and it was really such an amazing time. You will be totally fine with jeans and any type of top during the day (even a sweatshirt, plain t-shirt). If you are going somewhere fancy at night, like a restaurant or club, you could dress up the jeans with a nice top or wear a dress/skirt of some sort. People dress relatively similar to the US, except I didnt see many sweatpants. I wouldn’t worry too much about it. Where in Italy are you going?

@roxy821: Rome is one of my favorites (we went pretty much all over Italy). Certain restaurants are more relaxed than others. I was pretty young at the time, so we didn’t really go to any five star places haha. But when we had fancy dinners, we wore dresses.

I have been to Italy 3 times and cannot wait to go back!

I think jeans and a nice top are fine for the day. Keep in mind that if you are doing sightseeing in Rome/Vatican, they require you to cover your shoulders in church. Hopefully you will be going in a cooler month or maybe just bring a light sweater 🙂

I like to dress up, so at night I would wear a skirt and a nice top. I think jeans are too casual for any nice dinner in any country. Even black dress slacks should be sufficient. Also, remember you shoes! They have lots of cobblestone streets, so if you are wearing stilletos, it’s not very good for walking around. Consider wedges or flats.

I lived in Florence for a few months. Jeans and a top are totally fine. For dinner bring a pretty dress and a pashmina if you’re going somewhere nice. I never had any issues with being improperly dressed there, I think they’re very used to tourists and people being dressed to be out walking all day! Skip sweatpants or yoga pants, stick to jeans, khakis, etc.

I’ve been to Italy many times and concur that your plan is fine for the day, but to dress it up a bit more for dinner dates, dress or skirt.
