Hi all! I’m new to the wedding bee as I just got engaged 3 weeks ago? I found my dress (literally had tears and I didn’t even think of wanting to try on a lace dress….I tried on about 30 dresses in the ball gown style that I thought I wanted), But anyways, i wanted to see if i could get a better price than the first boutique i tried it on at so I called around and found my dress at a boutique that is a Maggie sottero premier location and put down a deposit (cash as the lady said her shop doesn’t do credit, and I should’ve trusted my gut at that point). I felt a lot of pressure as she took off almost 600 from the dress. After I left the shop, i had a weird feeling especially after she wouldnt take credit and i went to read reviews on the shop and sloop many reviews stating that their dresses arrived late and up to 3 weeks before the big day and the shop increasing the price before girls can pick up the dress. I’m freaking out because over 23 reviews that sound similar. So I called her as iit’s been less than 24hours to cancel and she’s stating she placed the order already and if she can’t cancel then I’ll be responsible for the dress, however upon looking closely at the contract, there is no return policy on the contract and what I signed was actually a rental agreement and the date on the contract is post-dated to two days after which means it’s dated for tomorrow. She said she would let me know if Maggie sottero will let her cancel. What do you think I should do? And does anyone have any experience with this? What can I do about the deposit?

@FutureMrs.AP: I am not sure if it is a state law or what but in Ohio we have buyers remorse and you have three days to get your money back if you change your mind….look into it for sure, don’t let her bully you!

I live in ohio and actually the 3 day law to cancel is in regards to more of a lemon law, fraud etc.. Not just if you change your mind. otherwise everyone that buys something “large” (like a car, house things like that) would return them because they have remorse. Unfortunately many bridal shops do state right on their receipt “NO returns or refunds” so you really have to be careful. only because this did happen to me (I changed my mind) which i can understand because many many brides do change their mind and get nerous on what they purchased.
In your case it does seem fishy with the contract being dated 2 days later. So on that alone you may have a case to canel. Just make sure the receit doesn’t say anywhere No Refunds othewise you wll be stuck. good luck1

I did! I went dress shopping thinking I wanted a lace dress, on a very small budget. After trying on 30 dresses I found a lace dress, that I liked, that was budget friendly, and had everything I thought I wanted – and even though there were things that I wanted to change I went ahead and ordered it, putting half down. I got MAJOR anxiety right after, and called an hour later to see if she could hold the dress. She told me she had already placed the order and most likely wouldn’t be able to but would try. She called Forever Yours (the dress maker) and was able to put a hold on the dress until the following day – well after sleeping on it and still having horible anxiety that I chose the wrong dress I called to go ahead and try and cancel it. The store was closed!!! I left messages, tracked down an email address, found them on facebook and messaged and couldn’t get ahold of anyone to cancel the dress. The next day I called as soon as they opened and they told me they wouldn’t be able to cancel the dress, I asked them to please try, she said they would and would call me back the NEXT day. Finally the next day she calls and says, sorry, they can’t cancel the dress. I was crushed but couldn’t give up, because seriously they’re not MAKING the dress a day later when it takes 6 months to get it! I called again and begged/cryed for her to do anything for me. Finally she was able to get a favor from her sales rep at Forever Yours and cancel the dress for credit – but I would still have to buy a dress from their store since they had money invested. So long story short, it took a lot of begging but I was able to get another dress, that I loved. BUT had to get it from the same store.
So from that, I would think that even if she can cancel the Maggie dress (which is very hard to do even right away) she may still want you to use your deposit for a dress from their store. If you love the dress it may not be worth it, can you just talk to her about your concerns? How far out have you ordered?

I just looked it up and the buyersare remorse law does vary state to state, I just read really quick but in ohiomit excludes cars but in California it includes them. I work in a small retail business and we have had to issue returns when we have a no return policy due to buyers remorse laws but I am not sure on the specifics. When I purchased my dress the contact gave me 3 days for buyers remorse to cancel and they let me know they would place the order after the three days…

That happened to me. I called as soon as they opened the next day and told them that I had made a huge mistake. It took a lot of persistance and a good attitude to get them to refund my deposit. Good luck!

I did. I’m sure cancellation policies vary from store to store. I put a deposit down on a dress then had serious doubts about it. Less than 24 hours later I was back in the store because of it. The store I ordered from allowed me to use the deposit I had already put down toward another dress they carried. Unlike what was stated in the contract, I was not forced to pay a cancellation fee… it might have been because it was the weekend and they had not put in the order yet or because the dresses were by the same designer or a combination of both.
I hope you can get everything worked out. Good luck!

I’m hoping that this won’t be a total loss at all as I also did that and called early this morning when the store opened. She said that she has to email Maggie sottero and said that it’s a cancellation fee of $50 which I’m willing to forfeit. I really am very skeptical that she placed the order as the date on the receipt is post dated to tomorrow’s date and it’s turned out that the contract she made me sign was not a buyer’s contract and when I told her this, she said she was calling Maggie sottero tomorrow. I will contact her if she doesn’t call me tomorrow by 10am.

I would recommend contacting Maggie Sottero directly. You have nothing to lose and stress your concerns about this authorized retailer that recieved bad reviews. They certainly will not want to do business with someone like that. I dont remember, were you considering another Maggie dress? If so, that would also work in your favor and let them know that you love their line but you acted too quickly and now you are regretful. It’s worth a shot. Good luck
PS – Be sure to share the retailers inline reviews and tell them the site(s) where you read them.

@ purple_Sofia: thanks! I just found the customer service number for Maggie sottero and they have a cancellation policy and it’s subject to order status! Since it’ll be less than 48 hrs, I’m hoping and praying that this should work out without a penalty, or at least not a huge penalty. *fingers crossed*

I ordered my Maggie gown a week ago and if I remembered correctly my bridal consultant told me that because of the Chinese New Year the dress shops were shutting down production for 2 wks to a month starting this week.
I know she wasn’t telling me this to try to get me to buy because we were trying to order some stuff for a party out of a catalog and they told us that shipping would be delayed because of this Holiday as well.
Chances are that she didn’t place the order yet. What bridal store doesn’t take credit cards? Who the heck walks around with 30% for a bridal gown in their pocket? I just hate it when people are trying to get over on you.
I hope everything works out

Great news! I went into the store early yesterday and had the customer service number that the retailers have to call if there’s a need to cancel and I told her to call in front of me. She said she had to email, blah, blah, blah and after I stated I will call right there myself and indicate this store as it is considered a premier location, she had no choice but to tell me that she didnt place the order yet And gave me back my deposit! I told her I was going to report her to Maggie sottero and she started freaking out but I was so angry over her shadiness! I’m happy that I will be ordering the dress from a different bridal salon even if it’s a little bit more pricey. Does anyone know how I can put a review on this bridal salon on the wedding bee?
