- Wedding: January 2012
One of the very first things Fiance and I decided about our wedding was that our first dance would be to the Smashing Pumpkins’ “Tonight, Tonight”. It’s a gorgeous song, and I love the orchestral bits in it, and I could just see how beautiful it would be when we did these big waltz-like sweeps during the recurring three-note theme… I had it all planned out.
On Saturday, we went to learn how to waltz. We spent an hour and a half getting the basic box step down, as well as turns and traveling across the floor. Finally, we had it, and the instructors said we should try it with the music. We turned it on, full of anticipation… and realized that it was definitely in 4/4 time. We needed something in 3/4.
So, last night, Fiance and I started searching desperately through our iPods to find something else. “For I Can’t Help Falling in Love with You” by Elvis is a waltz, but the beat was just too fast for our beginner dancing feet. Finally, though, we listened to “Come Away with Me” by Norah Jones. Though it’s not as much “us” as “Tonight, Tonight” was, it’s a perfect tempo for our waltz, and it is still quite romantic. And thus, we chose our new song.
Anyone else had a similar problem?
