No, but my brother and FATHER have been mistaken for my other half!!  People joke that SO is old enough to be my Dad (age difference of 11.5 years) – awkward.  I don’t think these people take our relationship seriously: just give him a high five and lots of kudos.

The first time I met my fiance’s family, we were all out at dinner and the waitress made a comments to me about having all brothers, too. We were pretty dumbstruck till my fiance pointed out that I was actually his date. Note this was very early in our relationship, like before we were official. We’ve also been asked if we’re married or brother and sister…

in other people’s defense, we really do look like we could be siblings *shrug*.

I have had people ask us if we are brother and sister, which I guess I could deal with. However, I find it particularly obnoxious when people still feel the need to point out how much we look alike after it has been established that we are in a relationship. It always makes me feel really akward and I never know quite how to respond. I don’t think we look that much alike, but we both have deep blue eyes and I guess that’s what thats what they are seeing.

No one has said this about me and my husband but people have thought that he and his sister were a couple.  It actually happens a lot lol and what makes it weird/funny is that they look so much alike; basically male and female version of one person.

No.  But people have mistaken my older brother and I for a couple and the two of us DO look alike.

@CarolinaCola: Ha! She way probably HOPING you were your bf’s sister! She probably thought he was hot! Take it as a compliment. 🙂

That’s just the first place my mind went. I’m always on the look-out for a woman who wants to take my man. 🙂

Yes! This has happened to us a few times. I think it is because we both have big eyes even if his are blue and mine are hazel. The weirdest time was when we were in law school and a random visitor asked us. When we said no, she said she thought it was weird for brother and sister to go to school together. My friend from China said it is considered good luck in China to look like your parnter. I have also read an article saying people are attracted to people who look like them because of genetics. That being said I do not think my Fi and I look that much alike. It is such a weird question to get!

We’ve gotten that before. We’re both rather thin, blonde hair, blue eyes (but then again, that’s about 90% of the state here, so that’s a big leap to make).

Or they’ll say that we’re going to make beautiful babies…uuhh, thanks for thinking of us having sex? Eh? Why do people say these things?

Yeah, we’ve gotten it a couple times, mostly because we have a very similar coloring and the exact same eye color.

ETA: When I was younger, my brother and I got mistaken for a couple on a pretty regular basis…which is really funny to me since we could be twins.

@inspiredcreations:  same issue with FH and I.

I’m 31 and FH is 50, but I still look in my early twenties; and he has a youthful face & great build (firefighter), but his hair started going white in his teens.

We get mistaken for father/daughter all the time.  x_X

@ladyartichoke: & @Ivorybuttons: I get that from my friends too because there’s an 11 year age difference. All of his friends think I look a lot younger than I am besides and act like he accomplished something great by snatching this much younger woman. He doesn’t look his age either though, so people don’t think there’s really a big age difference.

Fiance and I went to his cousin’s wedding about 6 months into our relationship.  Well, we’re both gingers and this woman automatically assumed we were siblings.  FI and I were baffled at this considering we were holding hands, giving each other pecks, etc the entire night.

it’s totally happened to SO and I. Apparently even our dads look alike? We’ve been together for 4+ years, so they say the longer you’re together the more you look alike. I just think he fits in well =) We took a picture with my mom and dad on a cruise and he looks like he could be my brother haha. I don’t mind though, I think we fit well together! Btw, I think we were told by someone who worked at an old navy store too! Weird! Just enjoy it, it means you guys fit well!

Yep. It’s weird, but you get used to it (and you also double-check… just in case).

Never happened with my Fiance, but one time when I was in high school (probably 16 or 17), I went to get my hair cut at the same time as my older brother. When we checked in at the front desk, they obviously saw we had the same last name. When the stylist was cutting my hair, she asked if he was my husband!!

I was like, “NO! He’s my older brother… I’m in high school…” So weird.
