@CarolinaCola:Not weird at all.  My brother gets mistaken for my SO, my SO gets mistaken for family, sometimes people even stare at me weird when I have lunch with my dad because they think he married someone WAAAAY too young.

People guess the most common situation they see, and assume and you+1 = whatever the most common is: i.e. I work in a doctor’s office with elderly patients. I assume your +1 is husband/wife. Sometimes patient is so elderly, their child is also elderly. I may accidentally make the wrong assumption.

Has nothing to do with looks, just people, and how much easier it is to much assumptions. (And how often you can get burned by those assumptions!)

With my SO, no. But with my ex, yes. We looked crazy similar, really like brother and sister. We always interpreted it as “we were just meant to be”. Alas, I guess we weren’t, but it was still a great relationship and we had fun fooling everyone ๐Ÿ˜‰ We were just teenagers.

@hisgoosiegirl: lol, that reminds me of when i was 13, i went out for lunch with my mom and sister to a Mexican restaurant and we ordered Daquiris.  I didn’t even say i wanted a non-alcoholic one because i thought i obviously looked too young, and they brought me an alcoholic one! i nearly gagged on it.

@CarolinaCola: I have heard (no research on hand) that couples generally start to look alike after awhile.  as weird as that sounds, after i heard this i started looking on faceook at pics of all the couples i know and it kinda freaked me out, lol.

It’s happened to us. We were meeting someone his mom knew and they knew that he had a sister and assumed it was me. It was a little awkward but we just laughed it off.

Had it happen to me with a high school ex of mine before, although I never quite saw us as looking much alike beyond hair color.  Ironically, years later I was back for a visit and we were wine tasting with another friend, and someone at the winery commented on it.  We laughed it off, but I gotta say it was super weird to hear that coming again 10+ years later.  (I would have forgotten about it too, if that hadn’t happened.)

Mr.TKE and I both have brown hair, brown eyes, and are both of average height. Other than that, we look nothing alike! We have totally different facial features…so we do, but we don’t.

@CarolinaCola: Hahah yes this has happened to us. In our first year of university we went looking for apartments for him to rent (we weren’t living together at this point). The landlord kept referring to me as his sister and talking about our parents and stuff haha, it was really weird. We do look kind of similar though so I couldn’t really blame her ๐Ÿ˜‰

I’ve never had that happen, but I could imagine that it would be awkward. The opposite happened to me… I went into an icecream shop with my brother to get a cake for my mother’s birthday, and the cashier said we looked like a really cute couple. I thought it was hilarious but my brother was so mortified that he actually got really snippy with her haha.

My mom says Mister looks like my dad did when she started dating him. I’m not sure what to make of that.

We were mistaken for 12 year olds. But that was becasue we were walking with my 12 year old son. People assume we are related. cousins or something.

@CarolinaCola: Yes, that has happened to my bf and I two or three times. He always jokes about it and says we should just say yes and make out. Hahahha. Give me your opinion!!! I look very pale in this picture, I am usually a little bit more tan. We do have the same hair and eye color in person, and we both have long eye lashes! lol

@galloway111: LOL we make the “we’re related” jokes too, we’re 18th cousins, thrice removed. ๐Ÿ˜› (I’m a geneologist)

We haven’t had this happen to us, but I have been accused of being a girlfriend to each of my brothers on occasion. One of my brothers started calling me his “cock block” because I kept the “uglies” away. :- I guess thatw as a compliment…lol.

Yes, this happened to us recently! I’m 26, but no one thinks I look old enough to be married.
