we will not be having a cocktail hour. we will have a first look as soon as were ready, about 3 hours before the ceremony starts. then do pics with everyone. our ceremony is in the exact same room as the reception so it would be weird to change between cocktails/hors dervours to the real food.
ive also never been to a wedding with cocktail hour. usually the guests just wait and mingle, and get drinks for a bit (like 30 mins max) waiting for the bride and groom to come in. then the food is ready.

I’ve been married almost 30 years and I have never been to a wedding with a cocktail hour. I think that it is either regional, or something the wedding industry promoted to make more money?? I have many cousins, so I have been to many many weddings, and my daughter’s was last year, and she didn’t have a cocktail hour either.

I actually look forward to cocktail hour. We have some awesome hors d’oeuvres and plan on having open bar for the cocktail hour. Plus its a chance for everyone to mingle after the ceremony.

I thought doing the cocktail reception too… and though some places were willing to entertain my idea.. it didnt change the price and I could justify cutting the food in half for the same price… and many many people were horrified about NOT having a sitdown dinner
