Yep! My parents surprised my sister and I with a Mexico trip one Christmas. They told me over Skype (I was in 3rd year university) a few days in advance so I could go get my shits. They told my sister earlier that day in person, since she was still at home. I think I’d want at least a few days any other time someone surprised me with a trip. I need to pack, buy supplies, etc.

The closest I have had is my birthday weekend trip that Fiance just planned for me – he never once consulted me and had to sneak into my schedule to see what weekend would be best – and then he had to make the hotel reservations and buy the bus tickets without me finding out… I still am not supposed to know about it and he plans on presenting the surprise to me on Valentine’s day (3 weeks notice) which is really romantic. He is bad with surprises!

I probably wouldn’t want to be surprised as in finding out the day of that we got to catch a flight and go on a trip just because I am a planner. If that was a weekend I wanted to just relax and put my feet up (or already made plans) I’d probably be mad that he planned such a trip for me! I am more of a girl who needs at least a weeks notice.

I really want to do that for Fiance at some point and surprise him with a trip, the only issues are that I need some sort of cover story so he requests the time off of work and doesn’t make plans for those days!

Actually yes!  I’m pretty hard to surprise, but my husband (then BF) managed to plan and surprise me with a trip to Maui!  It was my Christmas gift, and we left two weeks later. January/February are the best months to go to Maui (for me anyway) because of all the humpback whales!!!  My favorite!  Anyway, I opened my stocking first and it was full of sunscreen.  I was really confused (because we live in Seattle…), but then he gave me my card and it was a palm tree and it said Mele Kalikimaka, we’re leaving in two weeks!  I cried.  More than when he proposed actually, haha!  I was SO shocked.  I’ve never been surprised like that in my life.  It was an amazing and wonderful surprise/gift!!!  I’m still so impressed he managed to pull it off.  πŸ™‚

@jesssamesssa:  I voted that Darling Husband got Husband of the Year award. You can read my story http://boards.weddingbee.com/topic/he-gets-dh-of-the-year#axzz2sNB30fwG

Long story short, it was a Friday in October, and I had to go to work, and Darling Husband got up early to make me this delicious breakfast for me. The day before he had washed all the clothes and cleaned the whole house as well since he had the day off. All of a sudden he starts laugh/crying and he says I wasn’t going to work that day. He had called my boss months prior to let her know I wasn’t going to be at work, and he did all the chores so I wouldn’t have any excuse to stay home. He also made a list of everything I needed to pack. I also had 2 secret envelopes to open with surprises, but I could only open them when he said so.

We drove all the way to MN, which is a 7-8 hour drive for us. He even made a pitstop at the airport to make it seem like we were flying somewhere, but that was just a joke, thank God.

My first surprise was tickets to see Wicked. The next day he took me to Mall of America and let me buy anything I wanted. My second surprise, which I didn’t get to even open until we were in the parking ramp, was tickets to see Josh Groban perform live at the Target Center. *I still get giddy when I think of seeing my favorite singer perform*

I ended up jumping out of the car, hopping around to his side, and kissing and hugging him for what seemed like forever because I was so excited.

I had no control over anything. I had no idea he had planned this for 6 months, no idea where we were going, or anything. He did everything on his own, and it was the BEST trip ever.

I have done that a couple times for Fiance, but I’ve never had anyone surprise me like that.

I have secretly packed a bag for Fiance, and told hm we were going out to run errands, then took a 3 hour drive down the coast to a BnB. I also coordinated with his brother and sister who live in NYC, then bought us plane tickets. I took him out to lunch and handed him an envelope with the boarding passes, he was in total shock, it was perfect!

@jesssamesssa:  That would be a wonderful idea!!

I have always wanted to do something like that for SO! He surprised me with a weekend trip to las vegas. I was at home after work on friday night on the start of labor day weekend and I get a text from SO.

The text was a screenshot of a confirmation of a 3 night stay at a hotel in vegas. I was pretty confused at first lol. He sent me a text saying he would be there in an hour so i rushed to pack! It was a great weekend!!

@jesssamesssa:  Not exactly with 30 min to spare lol, but my Fiance surprised me with a 10 day cruise for my 30th b’day.  We had been price comparing for a long time and there was a lot of back and forth if we should go, so he said to just forget it.

He wanted to wait until closer til departure but I started making all sorts of dental appointments that month!  So he had to tell me sooner than later.  That worked, b/c then I needed to go shopping!

@jesssamesssa:  I always do things like this for Mr. 99.  We’ll be in a rut, or tired or just need a break, so I’ll call my friend who dogs sits, see if she’s available…then I poke around for a neat B&B or a remote resort with some groovy special, call them up, book it and call Mr. 99, tell him to pack and fill the car up with gas!

Its always really nice to get away, even if its just for a night or two!

Hehe, I’m surprising my Fiance this weekend.  We never get away alone at all and I just secretly book a night at Harrison Hot Spring.

I’m planning to pretend sleep over night at his place on Friday night.. leave my backpack in my trunk, quietly pack his stuff when he most likely falling asleep in sofa after his badminton…and leave his stuff in my trunk quietly.

Saturday morning will pull out the pre-set GPS and on our way to harrison hot spring

Darling Husband surprised me (and DD) with a trip to London, England for Christmas. We had talked about going over at some point to visit his brother (and his brother’s now-fiancé who have been teaching there for the last 4 years), but we had always put it off due to finances. Anyay, we leave the 21st of this month, and are staying for 10 days…

… I’m also 95% sure he’s planned a ‘surprise’ trip to Paris while we’re there (I accidently came across another itinerary while looking for the London-based one). We shall see, though!

I haven’t been surprised, but I’ve done the surprising. πŸ™‚

I completely planned and paid for a trip to Oahu and Maui for one of my sisters for her birthday.  It was her first birthday post-college, and she had been working very hard at multiple jobs.  I arranged for time off at both of her jobs, and then told her 2 days before we left that we were going to Hawaii for her birthday, that everything was booked, and that all her co-workers knew already. πŸ™‚  Easily the best surprise I’ve ever been part of, as she was just so, so excited and couldn’t believe it.

I’d been giving her one small gift every day for the few weeks leading up to her birthday, and to tell her about the trip I had a whole sand pail full of beach items, including a “Golden Ticket” that contained her plane tickets.  I made signs for the wall that had big hibiscus flowers and said, “Someday starts now,”  so she knew something was going on before she started going through the bucket.

Yes, Fiance did once, early in our relationship, and while I did go and we had an amazing time, I told him NEVER DO THAT AGAIN, his timing wasn’t ideal and I had to be up at night on the laptop to get time-sensitive work done while there. Now we plan vacations together and work is not even glanced at while on vaycay πŸ™‚
