@kimsryman:  OMG I am in the same situation. My mom put the downpayment on the dress Saturday literally at 6pm. She paid in a check. They were closed Sunday and today. I’m calling first thing in the morning and just crossing my fingers they will let me cancel! Good luck!

There was an underlying clause with my dress that I could of canceled it within 24 hours, of course no one told me.

That happened to me, so I called the next day and they let me pick a different dress and put my deposit towards that new dress. Maybe they will let you do that? I think it will depend on that stores policy.

Salons where there are strict cancellation policies will sometimes hold the payment and order for a few days just in case you have a sudden case of regret. You should also research your state and local laws. Some states give you a small window of time to make a return or cancel a purchase (these typically apply to cars and big name items) with no penalty. Also, for those of you who paid with a check–you do have the option of cancelling the check if it has not been processed. It’s not the most ethical option, but it is still an option.

You may have to select another gown from their store

No luck on my cancel so far this morning. I was the last person in there on Saturday and they didn’t reopen until this morning. I’m tired of hearing about “policy” I know what that means. I called the designer directly and was able to get through to their wholesale department. They pretty much told me it cuold be canceled but legally it had to be the store that canceled it. Now it’s in their hands. It’s so awful that the store can pretty much decide not to cancel it even though its entirely possible. I’m still keeping my fingers crossed and saying some prayers. I’m fine with losing the deposit but def don’t want to pay for a dress I know I will never wear!

@Soon2bSykes:  If the store won’t work with you, could you call the banking institution that you used to pay the deposit, especially given the tight turn-around in you changing your mind?

Great news bees- this morning the store owner told me they couldn’t cancel the dress and that I was responsible for the balance due. I was not willing to accept that and called the designer- thank god I don’t take no for an answer. They agreed to cancel the dress, charge me a $300 cancellation fee and a $450 store credit (I already paid $750 for my deposit). I felt this was more than fair. I can use the $450 toward accessories or shoes or something! It pays to work with businesses that care about their reputation!

Advice to other bees- don’t accept no for an answer. There is always something that can be done.

Can I ask where you got the second dress? I had a very bad experience with my MOG dress at Mariposa bridal but I was hoping that you would have better luck with them.
