I had kidney cancer and now only have one lousy kidney that has all sorts of problems…including once what you’re going through now! I didn’t really have symptoms either when I had it – of course it’ll depend on severity and the cause of the blockage. In my case, I had an infection that caused backflow of urine due to inflammation. The CT scan will help determine the cause of your hydronephrosis (sounds like they’re looking for stones). Again, in my case I was given antibiotics and it basically took care of itself. Kidney stones, especially in women, tend to pass on their own without any problems unless they’re really big. I don’t think you need to worry about catheters – they generally only have to drain the bladder or kidney if the blockage/hydronephrosis is severe. If your doctor suspected that you had a serious problem, I would assume you’d be admitted to the hospital to have it dealt with promptly. I’m not a doctor – but I think you’ll be just fine! Good luck!

My Dad was diagnosed with Wegner’s disease after he lost 95% of his function. He never felt a thing until he went to the hospital. He’s been on dialysis for almost 4 years now and he’s in his late 60’s. He was finally scheduled for a transplant yesterday!! My point is, even if it is a worst case scenario, which it likely isn’t, you’ll be okay. If my dear old (and I say that lovingly) dad can survive with no kidney function for years, so can you. *Hugs*

Aqualov:  I just clicked on this thread to see what the OP was referring to. I have a lot of issues with UTIs but never heard of that before….

I am just replying to wish your dad good luck on his surgery. And congratulations, it is amazing to hear of people getting another chance at a healthy life.
