blondie603 :  I’m getting a kyleena in sept. I have a Morena now and it’s 5 years old so I’m getting it changed. It’s really not that bad getting an IUD put in (and i had never had my cervix dilated before getting it done). The worst part is actually the aftermath…i had terrible cramps for the rest of the day. But by the next day I was fine.

I had the paragard put in which is the largest of all the IUDs. I never have given birth so they did give me something to make my cervix dilate for it. My experience was the same as everyone I knew that got the mirena and the Skyla. Don’t know anyone that has got the kyleena yet though but I’d imagine it would be similar to other IUD insertions.

There’s some discomfort (like a sharp pinch or cramp for comparison) but, to me, it’s mild and the whole process is over so quick that it’s hardly worth noting. That said, everyone’s tolerance and experience can be different. Cramping was definitely intense following it for the rest of the day so Ibuprofen will be your best friend. Your doctor may suggest taking ibuprofen before the procedure and may even prescribe something to make your cervix dilate. Just follow their suggestions and any instructions they give for breathing during insertion.

blondie603 :  I got Mirena inserted in March. I was so worried that it would be painful, but it was just a quick pinch for me.

blondie603 :  That’s what I took. It didn’t give me any diarrhea or stomach problems. I can’t confirm whether it made my experience any easier or not since I don’t have a comparison without it but, if prescribed again, I would take it again personally. It’s up to you naturally but I’d make sure they know you aren’t taking it if that’s the case ahead of time.

It depends on your pain tolerance. The doctor who put mine in said she has seen women who had no reaction, as well as women you could hear screaming down the hall.

I had the paraguard for maybe 8 months last year. It didn’t hurt at all inserting or removing. You could just feel a slight pressure like someone was twisting or turning something in there. But I think I have high pain tolerance. Electrolysis doesn’t bother me either.

I wanted mine removed because I was tired of the constant thick discharge, the 10-day long heavy periods, and also my boyfriend got a vasectomy so I didn’t need it anymore.

blondie603 :  I have a Mirena, but I imagine the insertion is the same. I took the misoprostol, it was two pills, one the night before and one the morning of, both vaginally. I did not get diarrhea, but I did have cramps. I took some Advil about an hour before insertion. The actual insertion was quite painful for me. I squeezed the nurse’s hand and just tried to breathe and stay calm, but really, it was over after about 30 seconds. Then I just had some moderate cramping for the remainder of the day and mild cramping for a couple days after. I did not have any spotting at all.

I have a mirena, but insertion is really the same for most of them. From start to finish the insertion took about three minutes, but I made the mistake of not eating beforehand or taking any painkillers like they told me to lol so I actually passed out, but it was 100% from nerves, not from the actual pain of the procedure. As far as pain goes I would say it was maybe a four out of ten, but it was seriously over so quick, like one really big cramp. So I definitely suggest eating first, and taking a painkiller like you had mentioned. The day after I had mine inserted I cramped a lot, then a little less the next day, and I spotted for about a week afterwards. But overall I absolutely love my mirena, in my experience it has been ten times better than the pill that I was on previously. Good luck OP! I am sure you will do just fine 🙂
