Chain stores don’t usually have in-house jewelers, they send it off somewhere else to get it sized. It will usually take at least a week to get back, and you hope they don’t lose it in the mail or get it mixed up with someone else’s stuff.

My recommendation: Go to a local jeweler that does their work in-house.

I agree with abbyful. however, you could call one of those stores to see if they have an in house jeweler  and what days they are there. I know some have one but they travel around to their different stores in the area. so you could try that or go to a local jeweler. gl.

I would definitely go to an independent or family owned jeweler.  Usually when I get my rings sized, it takes anywhere from 45 minutes to two hours, and I either drop it off or hang out at the store while it’s being done.  I would not trust Kay’s or something like that, because they have to send it out.

I took a ring my Fiance bought me at Zales (just a ring no ering) to get sized there because he bought it there.  They do send it out, it took around 2-3 weeks.  I didnt have any issues with them.  It just took a while.  I took another ring to my preferred local jeweler and they sized it in 30 min.  So I think its a matter of preference.

Our local Jared’s does have their repair shop in house, which is where our local Kay’s ships their jewelry to for repair/sizing etc. (all owned by the same company) Check your local Jared’s stores to find the one with the repair dept and you can eliminate having the ring shipped anywhere. I use them and it never takes any longer than 2 days for any service because ship time is eliminated. Or like PP have said, a small independent joint.

Is there a Jared by you? Like @TeamMcGowan said, they do in-house resizing. I had my engagement ring re-sized by Andrews’ Jewelers, where we bought it from (not a huge chain but they are in other places) and one of my side diamonds fell out a couple of weeks later! Jared re-sized my wedding band which has a ton of tiny stones and they’ve all stayed secure.

A friend of mine got her ring from Kays, so she took it there to get her and her husband’s ring resized. They ended up switching the ring sizes around, so her hubby’s ring ended up way too small, and her’s way too big! They ended up having to completely replace both rings, as they couldn’t mend the damage. Probably an extreme case, but amusing none the less.

Go to a local jewler that does it in house. I took mine to a guy in FL that’s where we got engaged and he did it in 2 hours.

Mine was purchased from Kay’s and resized by them; when they sent it out they told me 2 weeks, but it only ended up taking 5 days. No complaints or problems with it, just took longer than I would’ve liked.

For bees having their rings resized in-store at local jewelers: how much did you pay to have it done?

I have had Kay re-size and ruin two of my rings.  I would NEVER let them touch my engagement ring.  On one, they didn’t take out the stones to size it like they’re supposed to and they all crumbled and fell out.  The second time, they scratched up and ruined the setting around the stone and left it loose.

My wedding ring and e ring is from Jared, like PP said check with a local Jared. They have an in house repair shop.  Both were sized in house by them. Took 2 to 4 hours to do

I had my e-ring sized at Kay’s. It was cheaper than a local jeweler who did sizing in house. It was a little scary, but everything went fine. They take notes on your stone and have you look at it through a viewer if you want so you can verify that it’s your diamond when it gets back. All in all, I was satisfied with my service (so far we have had 3 rings sized through Kay’s, none were purchased there) and I would recommend them.

Take notes and pictures of your ring.  I had two rings sized at the old Filenes a long time ago before Macys bought them, and I swear they freaking hollowed out the inside of the ring.  It was a solid white gold band, but when I got it back, it was empty on the inside and just shell.  I had no proof and couldnt do squat.
