I just made a post in regards to my wedding dress, it’s custom made to my measurements from Etsy and I am thrilled with it–it’s everything I wanted in a dress and more Smile And the price was a lot better, too! I followed my heart and found exactly what I desired. Best wishes to you…check out http://www.Etsy.com

You can find bridal shops and seamstresses on Etsy that can custom make just about anything for you!

I felt the same way when I was shopping for a dress, as nothing seemed to jump out at me and it became very frustrating. I looked at this dress online for months and months and finally made the decision to go with it and I don’t regret it to this day. It’s a sweetheart neckline with a fit-and-flare silhouette (kind of like a mermaid but not as tight) and has a mini puddle train in the back.

@lilarose:  Thank you so much, I love love love my gown! Awe don’t worry, I’m sure you will find the one! It might take some time so try to be as patient as you can. The only risk in purchasing online is that most buyers don’t measure in person and you can’t exactly have dress fittings, so that is a risk in itself, but for some of us it is a great gamble and can be very rewarding!

P.S. What style are you looking for? Maybe I can help?

@lilarose:  I agree, it is probably best to try them on, that is what I did before shopping online. You may find one you love in a bridal boutique, who knows? Wink Good luck to you!

I am considering getting one made, I would love a regency style wedding dress, we’re having a book themed wedding and Pride and Prejudice is my favourite book so it seems appropriate 🙂 and I don’t think there are many regency style wedding dresses out there

I had mine custom made in China. I used photos as inspiration and had a friend in the fashion industry sketch it out for me. it worked out better than I ever expected and came in way cheaper. But that said it can also cost about the same as a bridal store dress.

The only problem I can see with your idea is that if there is absolutely nothing else like it then there is the possibility that it wont work out how you envision it in your head. Designers have to rework their ideas numerous times before it makes it into the collection so I think that is something to consider.

@Jacqui90:  Not to threadjack, but have you considered looking at Claire Pettibone gowns? I don’t know what your budget is, but they scream regency England and Pride&Prejudice. That was the look I was leaning towards as well. For the longest time, I was madly in love with her “Juliet” and “Queen Anne’s Lace” lace dresses that are empire waisted. Also, you might like the “Kristen” gown. Google them if you want, you might even be able to find them used or for sale online to save some money 🙂

Good luck!

I did have a gown designed and made for me. I didn’t go to a seamstress, but I met with the designer during a trunk show and she designed the dress there for me. I am so totally thrilled with my gown. If you want more details, feel free to send me a message!

I am lucky enough to be going to school in Tucson, so I visited designer Martin McCrea’s studio and fell in love with her gowns. I had her sew the Estelle dress for me, and I have never felt as beautiful in anything! I think having a dress created just for you ensures a gorgeous fit. I’m going to share her website here because I think she’s great!

I too am also not finding dresses that are perfect, so I’m having on emade as well. What my seamstress suggested is me trying on and taking pictures of dresses that I like with aspects that I love and then she will sit down and actually draw a design out. Maybe you can have the same thing done? That could help easee the anxiety of not having your expectations met!

Yep, I’m having mine made. I’m hoping sometime next month I can do see it for the first time.  I’m having a local designer make mine. The next two months are going to drag on while I’m waiting to go see progress for the first time!
