I think it could work. My only concern would be the adding structure part. Maybe you would be best off finding a super simple satin strapless dress and having a seastress make an overlay in chiffon that has straps and embeleshiments?

Something like this,

That way the seamstress would have to build the dress from scratch, but she would be able to embelish it just the away you want without competing with the existing design lines of the dress.

i think the Bill Lekoff dress would be beautiful as is in white but that’s just me. It has a very etheral feel.

i know this may sound crazy, but have you thought about ordering your dress from a chinese company? I’ve never done it but there are a lot of reviews by bees on good ones / bad ones. That way you could get the Eugenia dress you wanted and spend about the same as having a seamstress hack a dress for you so that it looks like your 2nd choice dress. I dunno, just a thought.

Oh and to answer your question about hacking a dress — be careful about adding additional weight to the bottom of the dress. A lot of dresses aren’t designed to withhold extra weight from add-on decorations. Talk about a wardrobe malfunction waiting to happen! 🙂

Good luck!

I’ve definitely heard of it being done before. My mom suggested it to me; getting a bridesmaid dress in white. Certainly nothing wrong with it and it’s much cheaper!
