I did for my first pregnancy. I’ll warn you – you won’t see much. They’re looking for a sac and a fetal pole and that’s all you’d see that early. You won’t get a heartbeat or anything that looks like a baby. It will just look like a blob 🙂

I had one with my first baby.  You will just see a sac and fetal pole.  The next week there could be a heartbeat but it still may be too early.

Echoing PP that you won’t see much,  so try to go in with the mindset of trusting your Dr as to whether things look good or not. Wouldn’t want you to worry unnecessarily!

Congrats! At my 5 week appointment, we had an ultrasound where we saw absolutely nothing, not even a gestational sac. We expected the worse, but I just progressed slower. I am now almost 18 weeks pregnant. So don’t get discouraged if you don’t see too much at your first visit!

Could you push it back until 6 weeks? That’s when I went and I’m glad I waited. I was able to see the heartbeat. If you go at 5 you may not get another ultrasound until 12 weeks. Ah the wait!

At 5 weeks we saw the gestational sac and what my RE said was the yolk sac. She was able to ID it, me not so much. Definitely didn’t see a fetal pole at that point. A week later, though, we saw a heartbeat!

Weddingobsessed:  I had a 6 week ultrasound after infertility meds, and they could only just see the sac – actually the tech couldn’t see anything but the doctor was able to find it.  At 5 weeks, it would be even smaller, but to a well trained eye they can probably find the implanted egg/developing sac.

5 weeks we saw a gestational sac. No yolk sac and no fetal pole.  6 weeks we saw a fetal pole and heartbeat! I’m holding my little 2week old peanut now!

I work at women’s clinic – we don’t do ultrasounds before 5 weeks 3 days because it’s so rare to be able to visualize a pregnancy on the ultrasound at that stage. If I was you I’d wait a little longer, because at this point it’s very very likely that you won’t be able to see anything at all.

Weddingobsessed:  Yes, I had bleeding so I got an  US at 5w1d. It was a teeny white blob with another, bugger blob (yolk sac) and the teeniest flicker of a heartbeat though not all 5w foetuses have a heartbeat yet.

Congratulations!

Yup it’ll be a really early pregnancy.  They may not see a baby or heart beat yet. But they should see a gestational sac and yolk sac which is consistent with an early pregnancy.

We saw a heartbeat at 7 weeks, but like other ladies said – not much else! The picture we got just looks like a smudged blob hahah

They wont be able to see multiples yet, at least not definitively, but I did ultrasounds every 2 weeks until 12 weeks, then we transitioned to every 3 weeks between appointments and as soon as the baby rises above the pelvic wall they’ll stop doing ultrasounds and switch to a dopplar just to look for the heartbeat(s). I’m 21 weeks now, but I’ll continue on my every 3 wk schedule until I’m I think 32 weeks, then we go back to every 2 until I’m 36 at which point I go in every week until I give birth.

All of that assuming of course that things keep progressing normally.
