anon248 :  I found out in college from the campus doctor that HPV is super duper common. She said that you can have protected sex with someone, go into a convent the next day, get a sinus infection or bad cold 6 years later, and the HPV that’s been dormant can show up. It makes it very hard to know where you might have gotten it. It also might have zero symptoms (and they usually show in women more than men). I’ve had abnormal paps that my obgyn think is likely because of that.

Many times. The exam with a colposcope requires a bigger speculum. So you feel spread from coast to coast, but not painful. The biopsy, depending on the kind, can range from “wait, you did it already?” to “I almost kicked you just now, glad it’s over.” ….very minor. Rough cramping at times after but not the worst by far. I have had only TWO regular paps my whole life. I joke with my doc that it’s “my room.” Lol… in all those exams, it has always cleared up on its own or been a false read. I have a complicated cervix. Good luck to you.

anon248 :  I had a colposcopy and also a leep- I will be honest i though the colposcopy was a little worse but by no means bad. Take two advil before the appt- I had some cramping ( again, not ubearable or anything! but for me it was a little worse than period cramps)

I remember feeling super upset and emotional, but its so common and can easy clear up on its own. After my colposcopy and leep I’ve had normal paps for 5 years ( and counting) Breathe!!!!I would also reccomend taking the rest of the day to recover- I did not feel like doing anything. ( again this was more the emotional stuff lol)

Also I wish I had talked to more people- seriously everyone and their mother has HPV lol. I didn’t and it would have been really comforting to hear how common it is and that it does clear up for most <3

Good luck bee you will be just fine!

I had 1 two years ago and I completely freaked out too but when I started asking my friends about it, so many of them had one done after an abnormal smear test.

I specifically requested a female doctor and she allowed me take a Valium beforehand but after having it done, if I had to get another one, I wouldn’t bother with the Valium. It was just like a slightly more uncomfortable smear test.

anon248 :  I had one after an abnormal pap, but nothing came out of the Colposcopy. The doctor even had 2 others come look, but there was nothing abnormal. They concluded that there was a mixup with my pap, but I still get a pap every year to be safe. It was not scary, the doctor was nice and explained everything before we started.

I have had one. I won’t sugar coat it, it is very uncomfortable. They scrap your skin and take samples. You also can’t penetrate your vagaina for about a month until it heals. So no tampons, sex or taking out the scab that falls out from the sample location. A little Too Much Information, but you will be okay. You will be back to normal before you know it and they will just monitor you every 6 months for the next 2 years or so. –hugs– It will be okay and you should definitely share it with your husband. If not just for support 🙂

anon248 :  story of my life! I’ve had 3 colposcopies and they aren’t terrible (although they aren’t pleasant either – think of it as a long pap smear). If they end up taking a biopsy that will hurt a little and may result in some cramping and spotting. I always get abnormal paps because I have a history of low risk HPV and every time they come back negative. At this point I get more annoyed at them than worried. I told the doc last time “tell me if my pap comes back something other than LSIL and then I’ll worry because that’s clearly just my baseline now”.

I think we should be talking about this bee! So many women have this.

I had a colospocy and then a cervical biopsy as well, this was over 7 years ago and I’ve been totally fine ever since and have gotten a pap yearly.

Don’t stress about it!
