mrskitty5:  I had a HSG a few months ago. It wasn’t great but it wasn’t unbearable and the worst part was over quickly. Hey, maybe you’ll get the extra fertility after you have your HSG done 🙂

My HSG was easy. The procedure itself was quick and painless. I had mild-moderate cramping for about 12-18 hours afterwards, but it was nothing ibuprofen and a heating pad couldn’t handle. Some ladies don’t have that luck, and find it to be quite uncomfortable. Unfortunately, there’s no way to tell ahead of time whether it will be easy or uncomfortable for you in particular. Hopefully you’ll be in the lucky camp. 🙂

mrskitty5:  My HSG was actually pretty painful, but that part didn’t last too long.  It was painful when they were pushing the dye through.  I actually did get pregnant the cycle following, but I also took clomid, so can’t be sure what finally did it.

Mine was a bit uncomfortable (pinch-y) but definitely over very quickly!  I had cramping after.  Overall, really not that bad!  Kind of cool to watch the monitor as they shoot the dye in!  Definitely watch if you can!

I had mine in August and I found it quite painful. Take some Advil awhile before the test and I took some as soon as it was done.

good luck!

Mine, to be honest, was really bad. Really painful and bled a lot, I cried and yelled lol my doctor said my tubes were contracting (Or something).  I seem to be in the minority with my experience but I just like to be honest because everyone told me it was going to be a piece of cake so I was SHOCKED. It’s quick and most women say it wasn’t too bad though so FX it’ll be easy for you! Take Advil before and wear a pad. good luck!

Mine was very painful but only for a minute or so. I actually found it mostly uncomfortable being on a table with my legs wide open to some Dr. I met a minute before. Oh well, I won’t ever see him again anyways! It wasn’t as painful as I thought it would be but it definitely wasn’t a fun experience. Good luck!!

mrskitty5:  My HSG was sooo painful even with the pain meds and Valium they prescribed me. I almost threw up on the table during it and was shaking and sweating like crazy. I wasn’t going to take anything before since I have a pretty high pain toleance but Darling Husband warned me (he’s a doc) so I relunctantly took the meds and I’m really glad I did. Hopefully it won’t be painful for you but if they prescribe meds, make sure you take them! Good luck.

mrskitty5:  It was not a fun experience for me either, as a lot of PPs have said!  I went straight to the grocery store afterward bc my dr’s office acted like the procedure was no big deal, and I was having intense shoulder pain (which I had no idea at the time how it could be related to the HSG).  It was so bad I couldn’t even push the shopping cart with my right arm.  I had an “SSG” where they injected “water and air” and they ran out of fluid on the one side and essentially did the procedure on me twice on the one side, so maybe that’s why I had worse side effects than others.  I was super bloated for like 3 days afterward too.  Apparently the shoulder pain came from the injected air irritating my diaphragam and can be a known side effect.  Hopefully, you won’t have any of these symptoms, but don’t panic if you do, it’s really not that terrible, just wasn’t a walk in the park for me!
