The Shred is a great workout and I love that it doesn’t prolong things. But first of all, know that in general weight loss is accomplished in the kitchen more than the gym, so make sure you do the Shred while you have a solid eating plan.

I had moderate success with the Shred–there are people who have lost A LOT doing it, but I think my body is quick to adapt to new exercises. And at the end of the day, it IS a 25-minute workout. The people I know who have had the most success using it supplemented it with additional exercise 4-5x/week (so Shred 5-6x/wk then another 30-60 minutes on top of it of moderate exercise 4-5x/week).

That’s not to say that you WON’T lose doing it because it is a great workout–just to say don’t exepct miracles–there are people out there saying they’ve lost 15 pounds in a month or 5 pounds/week or whatever which is great for them, but in general, they are the exception, not the rule. I lost the safe average of 1-2 pounds per week doing the Shred AND weight watchers at the same time. Since the workout also involves weight lifting, I highly recommend that you get a soft tape measurer and start tracking measurements because a lot of people also report that they didn’t see much change on the scale, but a LOT of change in their inches.

But regardless, it is a great thing to do for yourself, weight loss and wedding dress aside!

I’ve used it, and I like it because there is enough variety that I don’t get bored with it!  I didn’t lose much weight, but that also wasn’t my goal- it did help me to tone up!  Make sure that you have some hand weights, and go at your own pace the first few times- it gets easier after the first time you do it!

For weight loss, I would focus on nutrition.  Eat a few small meals during the day and find some good snacks with protein!

I totally agree with what PP have said but there are a few things I’d like to add:

First of all, Jillian Michael’s does not stretch enough at the end of her workouts.  If you don’t want to be so sore you can’t walk the next day I would recommend stretching extra.

Secondly, if you haven’t been working out much, no matter how much you stretch you will be sore the next day, but don’t skip a workout because of it.  Don’t kill yourself, but if you don’t get moving you’ll actually just stay sore longer.

And finally, it’s really hard to start a new workout plan, and kudos to you for doing this.  The fitness boards here are actually a great place to find support, so don’t be afraid to ask for support/advice or to come on here and brag about accomplishments!

I tried it for about two weeks (I got really sick after, and then forgot I had it).  I have some knee problem, so I mostly stuck to level 1 (level 2 had too much jumping).  With my Weight Watcher plan, I definitely noticed some results, and could even see some toning in my arm! (Granted, I only have 8 lbs weights and was using those, in the video its only 2-3 lbs, so I might have seen results in my arms faster than expected!)

30 day Shred made my back fat disappear and shrunk my love handles.

I was doing it with other things. In the morning I would do Leslie Sansones 3 mile walk that was 40 minutes, then 30 Day Shred at night and that’s another 25 minutes and then 20 minutes on my stationary bike after the Shred.

I just ordered the Shred dvd yesterday! I’m so excited to get it. I’m hoping it will help me stick to a better routine. Now that winter’s here and I can’t really run outside, I’m having a lot of trouble dragging myself to the gym to run on the treadmill. Hopefully I’ll have some progress to report in the next few weeks!

For those of you who were pretty active when you started using it (eg could run a 5k comfortably), how was the “learning curve”? Were you ridiculously sore after the first time or two or was it pretty easy to get started?

I bought this a while ago, did it once and forgot about it.  I hate hate hate exercising, but with about 25 lbs to lose before the wedding I was thinking about trying it out again and actually sticking with it, on top of eating better!! I’m glad to hear that this has worked for people, I’m going to try it out – starting tomorrow!

I just got the Shred in the mail and was planning on starting it this coming week.  Anyone want to be accountability partners?  I’m trying to lose some weight before my best friend’s wedding in February!

Geeezzz- I curse Jillian everytime I finish this workout! Ive been doing it on and off since September ( i had my gallbladder removed, so I had to take over a month break ๐Ÿ™ ) She kicks my ass every time! Even if I dont see too much weight loss by the end of November, Im not going to stop doing it, It’s too great of a workout for only 25 minutes! Ive already noticed my legs and arms are more toned!

Juhneenee- I like that idea!  I’m trying to keep the pounds from creeping up this holiday season (I love holiday cookies a little too much!) and an accountability partner would be fun!

I don’t know if any of you have heard of sparkpeople.com, but it’s a free website where you can track your food intake and exercise, and they have a few good recipes.

Oooh I wanna be accountability partners! I just did my very first shred workout–HOLY COW. My arms and legs feel like noodles. I have no idea how I’m going to get out of bed tomorrow, let alone do this again! Someone keep me honest!

I want to be accountability partners too!!  I just did the first one this afternoon and I’m planning on getting up early to do it before work tomorrow.  I didn’t even finish the first workout today, my boyfriend came home with Bojangles, but I am soooo sore.  I really love this forum because I’m feeling a lot more motivated reading about how everyone wants to look better and lose some weight ๐Ÿ™‚
