OMG I cant believe you posted this.  My Fiance wants to honeymoon in Alaska as well.  Our wedding will be in Seattle, WA so it will be close by.  We both have talked about visiting Alaska.  I am more of a Cabo type of gal but whatever makes my Fiance happy.  And I think it will be super fun!  I want to see some bears.  We might do the cruise to Alaska.  Everyone who has visited has great things to say about Alaska.

I have not, but a co-worker did. She and her husband went on a cruise in September/October. The pictures looked great and she enjoyed herself. My aunt who visits Alaska almost every August has nothing but great things so say about it. I’d love to visit at some point. Good luck with your planning!

I would love love love love an Alaskan cruise. Fiance, however, is definitely not on board!

Let us know what you decide!!

@farmersgirl:

After seeing this, I am thinking no cruise….!

I’m really not sure, I would love to draft an itinerary for doing land, compare it to cruise and see what is the best fit for us?

We did an Alaskan cruise in July this year for our honeymoon and It was AMAZING!  Alaska is absolutely gorgeous and the excursions in the ports were so much fun!  We went sea kayaking and took a catamaran to the glaciers.  We also went salmon fishing and now have a bunch of fresh Alaskan salmon in our freezer.  I highly recommend it!

@farmersgirl:  When are you going on the honeymoon?  I am an Alaskan, and lived there until this spring when I got married and moved to ND…

Let me know if you have any specific questions… or if you have anything that you would really like to do on your trip.

@farmersgirl:  I just had one comment about bears (I used to live in Alaska) . . . seeing them in the wild, even at a distance, poses considerable risks for you and others that may be around you.  You really should take every precaution to *not* see them.  Maybe otters, puffins, and whales will do the trick?  🙂

@MissCosmopolitan: Well it really depends on the type of bear, what time of year it is, and if it is a female with cubs…  (I lived in Alaska for 20+ years)

I have been within 10 feet of bears multiple times and they were so scared that they ran away.  If you are in the right means of transportation (pickup truck/airplane/train), then seeing them is a wonderful and fun experience, and not dangerous at all.

But, people like that man who lived in the wilderness ON THE BEAR trail???  That was super dumb, and he was asking to be eaten.

(oh, I lived in Alaska for 20+ years, isn’t it beautiful?  Where did you live?)

If we opted to not cruise, would of you Alaskans/former Alaskans suggest any must-see’s that might be off the beaten trail or something/somewhere that not enough people get to see?

I haven’t travelled much, but when I do, am always turned off by a purely tourist area’s, like getting to see some unique places that aren’t always on the top of people’s radar 🙂
