Our baker suggested that we could use silk flowers to decorate our cake, however they do not know how to sanitize them. After thinking about the chemicals and germs that could be on these flowers I am really starting to re-think doing this. Anyone have any experience with this? They also told us we could use ribbon around the edge, but now I am re-thinking that too!

have your baker make a “top” (usually out of cardboard or styro which is made for “food use” and covered with icing which no one will eat). On top of that you do your arrangement. Check out
You could also buy ready made sugar flowers as well. I would not worry about germs, we’d all be dead by now — you’d be surprised how much you consume that isn’t sterile.
