flowercrown16 :  I got an 8 week old puppy and a few months later he went to stay with my parents for a couple months and then came back to me living in a different place. He was totally fine. Recently we adopted a 1 year old dog two weeks before moving, he was also fine. We didn’t really do anything special to transition. Since it’s going to be so early in his training, I doubt you’ll have made so much progress that you’ll be significantly set back, just try to keep consistent during the moving process, feel him and take him out at the same times, etc.

flowercrown16 :  What kind of puppy? I just moved with our 3 year old lab (we had lived at our previous house for his whole life) and he transitioned seamlessly. We just made sure we didnt introduce him to the new place until we had his things set up-his bed and toys- so he knew this was home.

The only thing that may be chaotic for your pup is the stress of moving. We gradually moved to our new house (we closed on our new house 2 weeks before closing on old house) and so he didnt see the new house for a bit. Is there a way to have someone watch your pup while you do the stressful moving part and then introduce him then?

All in all, I think your pup will be just fine, just remember that you may have some steps back in potty training at the new place. I know how hard it is to find a good breeder and the correct breeding, so I would go for it. Another option is to talk to your breeder and see if you can pick your pup up after you move. We picked our pup up a week after his brothers and sisters had gone home just due to logistical issues (needed to get time off work).

Congrats on the new puppy!

I moved when my guy was 8 mos old…he adjusted just fine.  As long as you adjust and keep cool your puppy will pick up on it and be ok 🙂

flowercrown16 :  Yeah, he’ll be fine. Dogs are very adaptable. Our 4 year old dachshund has lived in 6 different places since I got him at 8 weeks old. He’s never had an issue aside from wanting to mark in the new house, but that generally settles down pretty quickly. Our other two have had no issues at all.

flowercrown16 :  We were almost in the same situation but decided to keep him with the breeder until we moved.  He was brought home maybe an hour after the movers left and was fine!  We did just move again (so he was a little over a year old) and he did NOT handle the move well.  He was very anxious as we were packing, anxious the day of the move, and finally relaxed after we unpacked some things in the new place.  No bathroom issues at least!  I’m not sure how to make it easier for your new pup, but he will definitely adapt and be happy to have a new family 🙂
