Has anyone not been able to resize engagement ring and had to pick a new ring?

Ideally, jewelers can make the setting in your size. In many chain retailers, they carry a standard size and then send them to be sized up or down, but they can usually only go 2 sizes in either direction. I am so sorry you had to go through that; I can understand how it would be emotional to have to choose an entirely different ring. Because your finger size is “unusual” for most jewelers (not meaning there’s anything wrong with your finger, just that chain jewelers are usually only accustomed to working within a certain range), you may want to ask in the future before purchasing whether they can have a setting made in your size before purchase (for a wedding band or anniversary ring, etc.).

ebonyt93 :  when me and the hubby where first married I was a size 11 and because we needed to size the ring up from I believe an 8 to 11 we found almost nowhere wanted to touch it finally we found a little family owned store and they did it obviously they had to basically rebuild the shank but it was gorgeous!

also after many years of marriage and loosing over 180 pounds we then had to have it taken down  to a 7 and unfortunately the place we took it to the last time warped it ..

eta  I should say it had a plain gold shank so no little diamonds to pop out

I have to get my entire ring remaid to go down a size I think I’m between an 8 or 9 I felt like my finger was huge trying stuff on even though I know it’s not. I would think they could order one in your size.

Congratulations on your engagement! I have no advice but wanted to say I think you have a great attitude about the ring situation and I love how you’re focusing on the joy of marrying the man you love! Best wishes

CUTE! Congratulations!

I had the same problem with my ring. He proposed with a ring that his parents gave him, but it was too small to resize lol. You can often have a new setting made to reset the stone in, but for us it was made more financial sense to give them back the ring and get our own.

First of all, congrats! This did not happen to me but to a friend of mine. She was not able to get her original ring resized to her finger because her ring size was too small. Also, don’t feel bad about having an “unusual” ring size. My ring is size 9 and I wanted a vintage ring so it was definitely a concern that I would find a ring I love that couldn’t be size up (especially because vintage rings tend to be tiny). Either way I’m happy you found a ring you love 🙂
